Putter Fitting Experiences

Would love to hear everyone's favorite putter fitting experiences.  To state the obvious, there are a ton of variables to look at - static fitting, setup biases (aiming right/left), stroke ark, roll off of face, etc.  In my fairly limited experience, fitters tend to do 1-2 things well, but I haven't found an awesome fitter who can look at the totality of what I'm doing with the putter.  For example, Club Champion will throw you on a computer indoors and measure 10 foot putts.  That's fine, but not totally indicative of how I stroke it outdoors on 5 foot putts or 30 foot putts, or how I get lined up to those putts.  Anyways, for those who have had amazing putter fitting experiences would love to hear who/where/why/how.

I got a putter fitting a few years ago. It was thorough and impressive. It greatly improved my ability to aim the putter, and also helped me control distance. I paid a buttload for my custom putter. I played that putter for months and months and never made a putt with the damn thing.

Today, I putt with a $90 putter I got from the bargain bin at my local golf store, and make way more than my fair share of putts. Lesson learned.

I think the concept of putter fitting is solid--it just didn't work at all for me.

I think the most eye opening fitting someone can do is a fitting with Edel. You don't have to buy one of their putters but you learn a lot and I learned a lot especially if you do it with David himself. They basically find the putter you aim the best and this is shape, offset, alignment, etc so again even if you don't buy a putter you'll learn what putter shape you aim best which is one of the most important parts of a putter that works for you. I also did a fitting with David who changed a few minor things in my setup mainly counterbalance and my grip which he suggested to change to a claw grip which has been a huge help for me.

I did get an Edel but have moved on from it, I'll game it again after some changes but I took what I learned, applied it to my current putters, did a traditional fitting on Quintic and the fitter said what I was using worked great, just tweaked my lie and loft and that's all I've been doing since. I want to do another fitting just to confirm my specs and maybe see if I need a lie adjustment as I've changed a few things in my setup. But yeah Edel fittings they're awesome.

Mine was an Edel fitting, and yeah it was great in every way, but my $450 custom fit Edel putter is sitting in my garage. Meanwhile, today I played 9 holes with my bargain bin putter and had 12 putts, making 52' of putts in the process. Really good putting, but not particularly unusual.

Same mine is sitting as well but I'm going to take out the internal weight, toss on a new grip and give it a shot. I know I'll aim that thing better than anything else but the feel may lack a bit. Am I upset with my purchase? Yes and no, the putter didn't quite work out as I hoped but it make me realize what I need to do for putting so I basically count the cost of the putter as a few lessons and training aids. I've bought worse and gotten nothing out of it.

Question ... why would you stroke a 10 foot putt indoors differently than a 5 foot putt outdoors? And if you're stroking those 2 putts differently, how would a fitter find the ideal putter for you if you have 2 different strokes depending on the putt?
