High Tech vs Pure Heritage

Hello,

 

I’m curious if others have contemplated the following when building a new bag…

 

Do I go high tech or the pure heritage route?

 

That question makes me think about my emotions and thoughts towards the game of golf. Am I gonna get the best clubs ever few years or buy a set once a decade?
 

Do I go Miura MB 101 or 2021 Titleist T100?

 

The Miuras look and feel special where the T100s will be old news / tech in a few years.

 

I’m torn between using tech to make golf easier vs chasing the perfect swing because my clubs demand it.

 

Do I buy the best tech wise or do I buy gear with the most heart / soul / heritage?

 

These two bags, to me at least, say a lot.

Is there a simple / pure driver and fairway wood out there?

 

I guess after writing this I see that I’m trying to build a “timeless” golf bag…one that’s still going to have soul after 5 years.

I recently switched to old cast blades with weaker lofts. They are shorter on toe hits but that isn't necessarily bad at my home course. I can shoot in the 80's but hope to improve by learning to make more disciplined and controlled swings. I have 4-w and don't find the long irons to be that difficult to hit, they hit higher than any other sets I can remember and that's what I need at my home course. After that I've got a 7 wood which I hit great.

By simple and pure drivers and fairways, are you looking for a modern head that's bonded? You'll probably have to start digging into the JDM clubs

They were the Acer XV Tours. I hit them pretty good but they had a lot of toe weight which for me caused me to hook because I had a problem getting the clubface open as I start the swing with my left hand, especially the shorter irons. The 990B's have a little less offset, maybe a little smaller and a thinner topline. Like the Acer's they are a softer cast that don't feel harsh even on mishits, which makes them better than forged in that regard. They hold up well too as they are 20+ years old and the grooves and heads look good.

I definitely tend to favor clubs that speak to my soul, if that makes any sense. I am not opposed to technology, but prefer clubs with understated aesthetics and simple lines. My current set up is a Titleist TS3 driver, Titleist 915F fairway, Mizuno MP20 MBs, Vokey SM7s, and an old BeNi Ping Anser.  10 years ago, I had completely different clubs, but they all probably looked pretty similar to these. 10 years from now, my guess is that whatever I’m playing will have similar looks and feels. I am an equipment geek, and this is the gear that resonates with me.

Do y’all know of a manufacturer who makes drivers + fairway woods that have the same presence as Miuras?

I would get both and have them matched. That way you can grab whichever set suits you and still be happy.

I’d have to sell a little too much crypto to buy both sets…

I haven't tried to play any irons with any tech yet. I've only played solid body forged CB's and MB's. I would like to try some GI stuff to see what the fuss is about.
