New Ball Flight Laws..... clarification needed please

So I'm behind the times and just read the New Ball Flight Laws..... I'm actually excited to use this info lol.  I dont ever use ball flight monitors so interesting to read how face determines starting line more then path and path contributes more to curve and the old thinking was the opposite.

So I read the face determines 75%- 95% of the staring line.... so when is it 75% vs 95% ??

... a man's gotta know his limitations

Less loft - start line is more towards the face angle.

More loft - start line is less towards the face angle.

With high loft wedges, the start line could be almost half way between face angle and path angle.

Awesome thanks Soloman great info!

Does it also make sense to say that when you play a big curve (face and path far apart) that the starting line will be further from face angle then when playin a smaller curve ??

No. It's best to just consider that the loft determines the start line. The difference between face and path determines the amount of curve.

I suggest you experiment at the range. Set your face, then keep moving your path around by adjusting your feet, which adjusts your pelvis and path.

Careful, other things affect path, such as ball position and gear effect affects curve also. This is where you have to accept the rules about the 3D geometry of impact, then adapt it to your swing mechanics, your sight pictures and your feels.

This is why launch monitors exist and you should try to get on one - to see the information, then translate it into a swing feeling and alignment that fits the reality of your impact.

"Ah, OK. If I do this, that is the result and the numbers prove what's happening at impact."

Other things to note. Lower lofted clubs will curve more given the same face to path difference as a higher lofted club. This is the reason it’s easy to slice a driver but not a wedge.

Also, ball flight laws are affected with woods if the ball isn’t hit in the center of the face. You can zero out your face and path but if you hit it in heel, it will start left and curve right. Vice versa off the toe. So it’s important to know where you hit the ball off the face so you don’t rush to a face/path swing change after a bad shot. With irons the ball simply starts right or left if hit on toe or heel.

It's more like 55% - 90%.  With 90% being the putter (lowest lofted club in the bag) and 55% closer to being a wedge.  But if you block a wedge dead right, you can believe that you face was pointed that way.

Also depends on the individual club design.  Some designs with a driver can be closer to 85% and others further from 85%.

Also, curvature is dependent on the path with relation to the face angle, not with relation to the target.  I can have an 'in-to-out' path 3 degrees with relation to the target and still hit a slice if the face angle is 6 degrees out to the right.

And then hits that miss the sweet spot (which is the size of a needle point, not a quarter or a nickel or even a dime) by a wider margin throw a monkey wrench into everything because of the gear effect.
