Best day driving, but nothing else turned up...

Does anyone else have days where their driver, and only driver, turns up and everything else is a mess.  Over the weekend I had possibly my best day with the driver this season.... but had my 2nd worse score.  Couldnt hit a solid iron, wedges were chunked or thinned and i had 33 putts with 5 x 3 putts.

 

Only thing i can think of was maybe i was hanging back allowing me to hit up on the ball with my driver, but also doing the same through the bag, which is obviously a recipe for disasted.  

 

I know the inverse is a common issue, terrible driving but good with everythign else, but do many of you have my issue from this weekend?  How did you re-set your irons without lsoing the great driving?

seen it lots. For most golfers, the driver is by far the easiest club to hit, especially if you arent swinging particularly hard.

 

The modern driver is a double edged sword, I think it covers up swing issues that become apparent when you cant tee it up two or three inches

Thanks, good to know its relatively common.  I swing around 105, carry 260ish with a slight draw when im swinging well, and it was really on at the weekend.  Just so frustrating to put myself in so many good positions, to go and have the rest of my game go AWOL at the same time.

 

Thinking back i believe it was likely just poor low point control on the day, a lot of chunked irons and wedges, which in the soft conditions we have right now with the wet, cold weather, are going to be really penalised.

 

Not the way i wanted to finish the season, but with my first child due to arrive in the next couple of weeks, i think this is me done for a few months bar the odd lunch break range session.

Im happy to practise in these conditions but not remotely bothered about playing. I havent practised with a driver in months, and when I do its only a few swings.

Yes, yes and yes.  This Sunday on the range I was flushing irons then on the course I was hitting some crazy good drives considering how cold and windy it was.  And then started missing greens with wedges and 9 irons.   I rarely have an issue with chunks or thin shots - its more face/path control so end up with blocks or stupid hooks, which is so frustrating when you only have a short iron in your hand.

That’s my game too.  Most drivers on the fairway and the the usual grind. I still can putt.

For me there are three phases: Driver, irons, and putting. Any given round I'll have 2 that are on but never all 3... every. damn. time...

 

One of these days they'll all come together. I'm getting close, I can feel it... Do I sound like an addict?

Literally my game this past Monday. Hit every non par 3 fairway and relatively long for my game and shot my worst round in two months. My handicap is a 14.6 course cap is 16 and shot a 97 with every fairway hit. So defeating.

Ha, This is so close to my round its mad.  Im an 11.2, 13 course handicap and shot a 95 after missing a single fairway.  So i beat you are sucking by 1 shot, not that its a competition.  Fingers crossed your fare better in your next round.

I call this playing golf..

There are very few times everything shows up for me.

The other week I hit every fairway and hit most greens in regulation. I had three three putts and a four putt. I hardly ever three putt during around. Result was what I usually shoot.

Another time I  hit most fairways,couldn't hit a green and chipped poorly. Putted my butt off. Result what I usually shoot.

The five times everything came together at the same time are the five times I shot in the 70's.

Oh, yea, im fully aware that all parts of my game wont show up togather.  I just rarely have such a good day with the driver and such incredibly poor results with all the other clubs.  Its the inverse of my normal bad days and i was interested in how often this happens to others.
