Raw wedge questions

There should be a slight but very minimal spin difference because of a tighter edge radius. Tour guys like raw because they are easier to manipulate the grind and bounce.

you really should try to keep rust off the face. It will make performance worse.

for us mortals. Patina is cool.

I really have to laugh when I read about how to clean raw wedges 😁 If you want a clean looking wedge don't buy raw, the whole point is for it to rust and reduce glare.

p.s. as said before there is absolutely no performance benefit other than the above. It will not spin more, feel better, etc. But it does look cool - to some of us that is.

I started using RAW wedges back when Titleist Vokey came out with their 200 series (Pre-Spin Milled) 8620 RAW. (I even took some of the bounce/flange away with a file and sand paper back then to make what I wanted out of that full bounce flange, in the 60* for sure. Those were amazing wedges! I was highly disappointed when they went to the "Oil Can" finish in that wedge series, because I thought the feel was different. Although, I don't think it was the oil can finish, but a change in the steel they made the wedges out of. When the Spin Milled Vokey's came out I used the Satin Chrome for a bit until the SM4's then I went back to the oil can finish, because they felt closer to the old 200 series model. I have since used the BLACK finish on the Vokey wedges since, because they were "Raw". I tried the tour chrome ones, too, but I did feel there was a difference, but I think this was just in my head. (A feel is a feel, though.) I finally went back to RAW wedges with the SM8's I love them! I have recently gotten two Cleveland TOUR RAC RAW wedges to use this year. When I took them out of the box, they were PERFECT for everything! I am excited to try them when the snow finally melts! (However, I would get a set of Raw SM9's if these don't work for whatever reason.)

Bottom line, I love the glare elimination. I love the look. I like how they can be slightly adjusted for a grind and not show any damage to the sole, I like how if you do ding them slightly, I can grind it out with a belt sander. and I just think they feel better. Personal opinion. Period.

I only had glare issue with my 56 degree wedge. I like all the finishes and have a trail mix going right now. Raw, plated and black.

Sorry to revive an old thread. This question is not about spin, that dead horse has been beat to the ground.

I recently changed to plated chrome from playing raw for a long period of time, and I am over hitting like crazy. Are plated wedges hotter or is there something mentally that is going on to make me hit longer?
