Tour Rickie Fowler's TaylorMade Spider GT putter - 2022 The Honda Classic

Rickie seems to be doing pretty well with the TM Mallet, thru two rounds he is 4th in Strokes Gained putting almost  +4.9.

But in SG Tee to green -4.2 (#126th). Irons are horrible SG Approach to green - 4.76 (141st overall) Yikes! Close to the cut, if he makes it looks like the putter saved him.  How many different sets of irons has he tried the last three years? Hate to say it but maybe he should be looking to a more Game Improvement style?

Putter has definitely been rolling pretty well for him. Short irons and wedges have been a struggle.

It is interesting that he’s gone away from the blade putter to a more forgiving shape but he’s gone more extreme with the blade irons in the recent past!

Odd Cobra wouldn’t customize something like a Stingray for him.

I have no doubt they would. Apparently he’d rather use the new Spider for now.

I wonder when Rickie’s current Cobra deal is up? I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him move to Taylormade and still keep the Puma apparel deal going.

Was thinking the same thing when I wrote that.  I can't unsee the commercial with him howling at his ball, and then watching him putt Thursday at the Honda.  All cringeworthy.

 

I do hope Matt and Rickie get their mojo back soon.

Over most yes! Taylormade is a "brand" they want marketability, they want popularity and as they already have the result golfers (DJ, Rory and Colin) they need to add some hype to their line up.

 

Sergio is great but he doesnt have that following or move the needle like some. This is why they brought Fleetwood in and why they would bring Rickie in within seconds!

Oh yeah. Totally forgot Fleetwood was on their staff. 

*great part about having RF on staff would be the exposure in all his other ad campaigns.

I kinda get this, but I wonder if it is more something cobra required. If it is meant to not give TM free exposure, in the age of 4K TV and internet a little black sharpie job isn't going to cut it. I see soccer players do the same with their boots, but its plainly obvious what they are sporting

These spider GT are under rated in my opinion. I think they are really good.
