Clubs for my Daughter

Looking for advice on what to get my daughter for a set of clubs. She is 12, 5'6" and strong.  Tired of fighting her for my clubs. 😆  She is just learning, but I think she is getting hooked. She made me take her to heated driving range twice this weekend.  

 

I know she would find a typical woman's set to be goofy (the colors mostly)  

 

I can shorten clubs a 1/2" easily. 

 

Am I wrong thinking that I should look for a 5 year old set of GI irons for men with regular shafts?  Seems like they are everywhere used for a price that I'm not worried about.  

 

Any advice would be helpful.

Get her fit.  

I've seen competitive junior girls at her age swinging anything from US Kids clubs all the way up to mens regular.

You really need to go get fit if you want the perfect set of irons.  If you wanted to do that you would have went somewhere already.

 

My guess is you should go find place that has US Kids Tour set and let her hit that.  It used to be easy to do that at PGA superstore but they don't always stock those sets anymore.   

 

It be really hard to imagine an 12 year just starting out needing mens clubs.  You might be able to get by with women's clubs but the US Kids or Flynn golf that you can buy are more likely better.

 

The woods and driver  is where you find an OEM from a year or two and stick a ladies shaft in there.

 

This could be totally off if she is swinging fast enough

I’m assuming with her just staring out you don’t want to spend the money on a fitting. Most of our golf stores have simulators and let you hit demo clubs as much as you want. I would take her and at least get her swing speed and see which clubs feel the best. It would be hard to imagine that she would start in a mens regular flex, but it’s really hard to know without more info.

You could also get her fit and then look for similar specs on eBay if you don’t want to purchase new

If she is starting out do not spend money on a fitting, that is just a crazy thought for someone just starting. Her swing will change and morph so much over the next few months that a fitting would be laughable. Get her a good women's starter set, preferably used, shorten em if needed, and see if she sticks with it. If she does consider a fitting once she actually knows what she is doing.

There is zero reason to get a beginner fit.

I wouldn't go regular shafts unless she is moving the driver fast.  Do you know her swing speed with a driver? Otherwise I'd start in some ladies flex you can find the non pink version if she opposed to the colors.

Cutting shafts will stiffen flex.  If the ladies flex clubs are too soft and whippy, you might look into a set of senior flex shafts.
