Makino putter swing weight

I got a putter from makino and swing weight came with E2.

it felt great and easily manageable for mid to long distances.
but anything under 6 feet I’m finding it hard to control the distsnce.  
 

head weight 350g

shaft weight ns pro 128g

Ping grip 59g
length 34 inches 

 

any suggestions Re: my options for brining the swing weight down to approx D6?

Find a 90g grip and put that on. If you like the current grip put a 30g plug in the butt of the shaft.

This isn't the most reasonable option but installing an Odyssey Stroke Lab shaft would be a way to reduce swingweight without adding to the total weight.

 

I really wish there was an aftermarket Stroke Lab alternative that provided the same total weight and weight distribution.

You would need to find a shaft that is about 55g lighter. 

 

A heavier grip will be the easiest and cutting the putter down by 1" will keep the the overall weight/setup the same.

Swingweight by itself on a putter usually isn’t a major variable. Can’t tell you anyone I know or myself that has ever even checked the swingweight on a putter because of how little it matters. Head shape, length, toe hang, total weight, overall balance, grip weight, are all more important factors. 
 

It’s someone odd your distance control is great on longer putts but terrible on 6’ or less. That’s usually something psychological or just needs some work on short putting drills.

Heavier grip, very simple fix. Try the Ping midsize just like you have.

Their Instagram has some pics and they are nice. I know some guys go "Oh just another Anser copy" but I like them. 

 

Especially the necks just look so good and a few details they do like almost a dot stamp that looks like old printer style font. 

 

Of course no lefty.

I’m thinking about getting one it would be nice to get some feedback as far as feel, materials and models.

I think they just starting bringing out putters but would be nice to hear from OP on what he thinks about his and which one he got.

Apologies on the late reply. I’m travelling right now and i didn’t bring the putter with me. 
I was lucky to get an early model that was never advertised. Will post the photos by the end of this month when i get back. 

My friends did not agree with me but makino felt softer than the current scotty production models.

If i have to compare it to PLD anser 2 I would say the softness is the same but it doesn’t give the bounce off feeling like anser 2 does. Probably because of the smaller grooves on the face. 

Swing weight came with E2 so I haven’t really gamed with it on course. Trying to get it down to D6.

@MattM97: Are "Tour Lock Pro" counterweights = still the top recommendation?

I've seen some folks mention they are just as happy to use a Clevis Pin/ Bolt for the hardware store ... but presumably if you're gonna spend the cash on a JDM Makino putter... then a Tour Lock solution (or a Gravity Grip) = preferable?

Ping PP58 midsize grip is 74 grams which is about 15 grams heavier than the small ping grip.  This should give you around D6 swingweight as 2 grams of grip weight is 1 swingweight

I thought it was 5 grams to change 1 point with the grip.

Quote for Golfworks clubmaking book.  An accepted rule of thumb is that increasing or decreasing the weight of the clubhead by 2 grams will increase or decrease the swingweight by 1 and the same impact would be achieved by adding or subtracting 5 grams to or from the grip and 9 grams to or from the shaft

Yeah you said 2g from the grip is 1 SW point when it was 2g from the head.

 Get a scale and try it, that may not be exact, just going by my experience.

So here’s actual data. We’re both a little off. Right at 3 grams is 1 swingweight.  14 grams difference and 5 swingweight points on same putter.
