Releasing immediately from the top

Old thread, but I wanted to say that the release from the top does two things: creates a bowing initially that keeps the club face from opening and starts the speed up. It's rotation that increases that acceleration, like a boat and a water skier. The problem is online instructors use this analogy to say you should hold the release and create speed at the bottom, but they don't explain or maybe don't understand how a wide arc is much more powerful and consistent than trying to create arm or wrist speed at the bottom. The arms have to swing hard first and then the shoulder turn will do 2 functions: whip the club through and square the face.

Just catching up with this thread as I recently tried out Monte's "No Turn Cast" swing. My question: Monte used to be a big advocate of "right shoulder to the ball"--how does that dovetail with the "cast"/"early release" concept (or does it?)

Right shoulder to target is my lone key for short irons

Yep, and to the previous point and on short game Monte advises keeping the right humerus moving which to me is what you are saying. My #1 key on wedges, especially around the greens.
