Cut Golf Balls

Who plays these and how would you compare them to the Snell Black/X?

I'm also interested.  Past models have had cover issues but unclear if they have improved on the covers.  Heard the Red (2 pc. Surlyn) is likely one of the best 2 pc. out there but I'm curious about the Blue, Grey and DC.

I have played the Red, Grey, and Blue.  Cut Grey is my go-to ball.

Cut Red is a 2-piece ionomer cover ball.  It plays like a Noodle Long & Soft to me.  For the price it is not a bad ball.  Don't compare it to a ProV1 or any other premium ball as that is not a fair comparison.  In the 2-piece value ball category it stands up very well and would have no problem playing it.

Cut Grey is a 3-piece urethane cover and, like I said, is my go-to ball.  I feel like it performs very well for me.  Very consistent holding the greens as the ball will check within a foot of the divot mark on approach shots.  Decent distance off the tee, nothing crazy long but not noticeably short either.  Ball carries the distance I would expect off the tee and it flights well for me and I can consistently predict its flight path.  On pitches and chips the ball spins well enough that I can control it and get it to check up.  Compare that to a two-piece surlyn cover that would just roll out, but maybe that fits your game better too.  Putts have a good feel to them as well, softer but not soft like a marshmallow and not hard like a rock.  Cover durability, I have had no issues with durability.   I have hit cart paths, trees, out of the sand, and the cover holds up.  In fact, one shot last summer sticks out to me.  Hit a high approach shot from about 120, 9i I believe, and pushed the ball to the right where it hit the cart path.  Thought for sure it would be damaged, not a scratch or scuff which shocked me honestly.

I played a box of Cut Blue last season I thought they performed well.  Played a lot like the Cut Grey, IMO.  It's a bit firmer ball than the Grey and it's a 4-piece urethane cover ball.  Durability, that's been the knock on this ball, right?  It's not durable.  I disagree, durability was just fine for me.  I remember one shot out of the sand, long SW shot where I had to carry another bunker so this shot had something on it.  Great shot, ball carried the bunker and I put it on the green where it checked up beautifully.  I did end up putting a cut mark on the ball, but that would, and has, happened with any other premium balls I've used too.  For the most part, I saw no difference in the durability of this ball verse any other ball I've played.  Overall, I like the ball and will probably give it a go again this season to compare it with the Cut Grey to see if I can get a little more distance out of it.  It is, I believe a 90 compression ball compared to Cut Grey which is 80.

You can buy the Grey and Blue off Amazon for $20/dozen and I've seen them at Walmart as well for the same price.  At that price it is a no-brainer to at least try this ball out.  If offered to me would I choose a Cut over a ProV1?  Of course not.  If I'm buying the balls, absolutely, I would buy Cut Grey over ProV1 simply based on the value.

I have not played the DC.

I played a round with the blue last year after I was given a sleeve.  It was fine, especially at the price, but I can pickup TP5X practice balls for about the same price and that's a better route for me.

Augie is spot on in his comments. I have played nearly all Cut balls, including when they had some colors. 1st Gen had some durability issues. Those were well addressed with the 2nd Gen. For me the Grey was spinny, in a generally good way, though a bad swing sent it right. DC is top notch, I found it firm. The Cut Red 2 Piece is my white early spring late fall leafy course colder weather ball. Goes straight, which is what I need, especially that time of year. At $9 per dozen when you stock up.

I enjoy the Snell X & Black.

Which would be comparable?

Is one longer and can spin as well?

Looks like a price increase for Cut golf balls.  I see on the website the Blue and the Gray selling for $25/dozen.  Amazon has the Gray for $25 but you can still pick up the Blue for $20.  Same thing at Walmart.  Everywhere else the Blue and Gray are selling for $25.  The Cut DC sell for $30/dozen.

That's a shame as that $5 increase changes the dynamics on whether I will buy this ball going forward this season.  I am firmly in the Cut camp at $20, but at $25 that starts to bring a lot of other options into play.

Well, Vice Pro Zero and Maxfli Tour when you buy in bulk and they are running a sale, to name a few.

Maxfli Tour 4 doz. deal with a $20 off coupon brings it down to $24.75/doz.    Vice Pro on 6 for 5 deal with shipping is $26.25/doz.

Yes, BUT a bulk purchase + a coupon or one off/time per year sale is needed. If it's a ball that works for you then worth it, but not the same as being able to buy a single dozen regular price.

OnCore Elixr is 2 for 50 AND no coupon is needed!  Occasionally they will offer free ship on the 2 for deals or a small % off.  👈That's the best deal on the Maxfli Tour, Vice Pro, OnCore Elixr ball which appears to be the same/similar ball.

I'd raise an eye brow to the crappy cover durability of Cut, then the $5 per dozen price hike.  By all means go with a better ball, there aren't many that come to mind that are worse (then Cut)!

Hey, I'm all for play what you like or a ball that fits your budget.  I still game the Kirklands and they are perfectly fine for my game.  I really don't lose any of the perceived distance loss and they perform very nicely for my game.  I also play the Vice, Maxfli, Snell, etc. because I like the quality and performance.  and for $30-$35 per dozen they work for me.  I play them in matches and league play.

That being said, If there is a deal on a ball, because I have a golf ball problem that needs treatment I will buy them.  It's a sickness really.  At least that's what my wife tells me.

I'm seeing the Elixr goes for $30/dozen with bulk discounts of $2/dozen at 3 and $4/dozen at 6.

Your issues with the cover of the Cut Blue are duly noted.

I'm a big fan of cut golf balls, I've played the red, blue, and Grey with the blue and red being my primary balls. The red is a very good ball for what it is and at a nice price point. The blue definitely has had some durability issues but I have played some newer versions and the durability seemed better. For 20 I think they're a heck of a ball, 25 I'd be willing to buy it but would definitely think of looking at other balls.
