Recoil Shaft - Woods equivalent?

There is a lot of talk in this forum about Recoil shafts in irons. I am likely to setup my daughter with Recoil senior flex shafts (F2) in irons. However, I didn't realize they discontinued Recoil wood shafts.

 

What is a good similar profile shaft for woods?

The Helium Nanocore is their ultralight wood shaft. Good thing about the UST site is that they have some pretty good charts that will help you narrow down what to go with.  You can also use their Swing Fit Shaft Fitting tool online that will guide you through some really simple questions to help find a couple of good options.

You are basically taking a risk anytime you buy a shaft without actually trying it the correct head your are planning to use with it.

 

Most of the stuff you read or see online really is just an educated guess.  It can help narrow things down but it can be totally off too. What crazy is one shaft that stiff may be a regular even with the same manufacture.

 

There are places that charge less then $100 to try out shafts and head combo's.  What you need to do is figure out how you want to play and what you need out of a shaft and go try them out.

 

Recoil shafts on paper look good. I have no doubt it works for a lot people. However the bend profile messes with both my daughters and they end up with unpredictable ball flights because it hard for them to square the head with them.  Trying out shafts we found they actually needed much heavy and stiffer shafts then what convention dictates.

We tried out the Nanocore F1 that came on the Ladies LTDx Max last week, and it seemed whippy at 80-82 mph.  Seems like the Senior flex would have been good for her, but I notice that the torque rating is the same as the ladies version.  There has to be more to the story, right?

We are planning to do a fitting real soon, I am just trying to get educated on shafts before we head in so I know what I am talking about/looking for. Looking forward to the fitting, lots to learn!

Just remember that lighter does not always equal more ball speed.

Fujikura Vista Pro .  12 year old son has them in irons and his driver.   He had previously played recoil in woods, but fitter recommended vista pro as the same kind of profile.  Irons were cheaper ($50) and Wood shafts are $100.  Every review I've read touts this is a value packed option.

So over the weekend, we finally tried out some head+shaft combinations for my daughter and found some interesting data.

 

For girls who are playing with recoil shafts, did you guys go with lighter heads?

For driver, we aren't in a recoil shaft--TSR1 (swapped stock weight for a 4oz weight, I think) with stock R SteelFiber shaft.  Total weight is 276g I think?

 

We play a Hot Metal 919/921 combo set of irons with 760 ES F3 shafts--driver ss sits 83.

 

What data stood out to you?

The problem with fittings is that until your kid reaches normal height for a man or woman they are choking down on clubs during the fitting. That is going to throw things off in and of itself. So many people just focus on getting a good shaft in irons or woods that isn’t too heavy for the kid and cut them down based on the various junior charts (US Kids, Ping). When they get to a normal height for men and women, then you can get a real fitting.

My wife uses recoil 65 F2 in her irons and likes them better than the Heliums.  She hits Wilson Dynapower -1/2".  Very average swing speed but his them fairly straight.
