... I am totally brand agnostic. I play whet I think is best for my game at any given time. Sometimes (mostly) that is a lateral move for curiosity sake. Having run IGR, going to the pga show every year and OEMs sending me equipment to review did take a toll on my game. Last several sets of irons are interchangeable and I sometimes play my King Tours or KT's in pw-8 with my T200's 7-5. The problem with a combo set os my KT's have i80's and my T200's have i95's. I am considering re-shafting the KT 8-pw with i95's. Everybody makes great irons these days but I have to admit the T Series got every one of them right.

I am somewhat brand agnostic myself and personally don’t wish to be a billboard for any manufacturer. My modern golf bags are bought on sale and balls are treated the same way. I rarely use proprietary headcovers, preferring my home course ones or my numerous vintage stock. My preferred hat is a Tilley or one of my numerous vintage hats that go with my Plus Fours.

I've traditionally played a mixed bag, believe it or not! Before the TS series came out; I didn't care for Titleist woods at all ... and wasn't a huge fan of the irons going all the way back to DCIs back in the day. Always liked how they looked but just didn't care for the feel. 

 

Hell, this was my bag in 2019 ...

 

 

God, I miss those Vapors. Them were some awesome blades.

I had mentioned this before, but I am pretty agnostic in regards to equipment.  At this point for the past 30 years I have played Titleist or Mizuno (‘03-‘24).

 

I told the pro I don’t want to know what I am hitting, we will just pick the best one.  It ended up being the T150.  This is the first time I have even swung a Ping club.  In the past the top line was so wide I couldn’t even look at it.

On Tuesday I played my 42nd round of the year. We had a 4:50 tee time. That was the earliest we could get as the course was packed. Stan told me when I arrived for our warm up that Bill had backed out due to the heat. I understood because Bill Asheville plays his club (the GPI) three times a week and he and his boys tee off by at 8:30 AM every round that they play. So that left just the three of us, Stan, Peter, and me. Since Stan is the Starter at CCA either Saturday or Sunday morning he knows most of the members. He noticed that a couple of tee times ahead of us there was a single going out. He didn't know the single as he had never met him before but he still approached him to see if he had any others joining him because if not he wanted us to jump in with him as time was of the essence. Single guy said the Pro shop told him two other members were joining him. Well those two were a no show probably due to the heat, so Single guy invited us to play with him. We teed off instead at 4:10 PM and the temperature was 86*. 

 

I had a solid two putts from the back of the green downhill off a ledge to open with a par. On the second green I said aloud to the group these greens are back up to really fast speed so I am just going to kiss my putts in an effort to come up a little short starting out and adjust from there. Two is one of the meanest greens on the course. I three putted from 40 feet for bogey. Thankfully that would be my only 3 Jack of the round. The greens were fast and I viewed that as being a solid test for my Spider with my new Odyssey grip on it. I hit a 7 iron to 8 feet on our first par 3 number 3. I just missed the birdie. +1 thru three. On #4 the no. 1 handicap hole I ripped a drive and then hit my 11 wood to 25 feet. I two putted that also tough green and walked of with my 4. When I make par on #4 it is quite the accomplishment. I failed to get my just missed approach shot on #5 up and down. +2. It was a par on the 115 yard short Par 3 sixth hole. Then I started to hit very good approach shots and continued to do so hole after hole. I made back to back birdies on 7 and 8. On 9 I hit my approach shot right behind the pin to 10 feet and the pin was on the left top ledge (3rd photo). I almost drained it for three in a row. 

 

Ok LP we don't need a detailed how you played every hole on the back breakdown too. How about a something shorter. 

 

I ended up shooting one of my best scores at CCA on Tuesday. I had 3 birdies and no doubles. I shot a 74.  I hit all but one fairway. My approach shots were on like they haven't been in 20 or more rounds. I peppered pins from 185 down to 115 all day. My 5, 7 and 11 woods were deadly as were my 6-9 irons. If I missed a green and there weren't many that I did I would make nice crisp chips with my lob and sand wedge off the tight grass around the green in close and save par. I played extremely well on 14 holes. I putted decent and got the speed right early, and my new Odyssey grip performed rather admirably. I like the feel. 

 

Mr. A was a joy to play with. The lefty is a relatively new member at CCA. He moved down here from Big Fish's state a little over a year ago. He has been in the game 5 years. He is wicked hooked on golf. He asked if I could look at his swing and tell him if saw any glaring flaws. I told Mr. A that I wasn't qualified to really analyze a swing, but with 45 years in the game I did know some basics. The kid (can I call a 35 year old a kid?) was so polite and very complimentary of my game. " Hey LP you are scratch aren't you?" A asked. I came back with "today I am playing like I am, but no I am a 6."  He shoots in the low 80's already. He has athletic ability and is a very good putter. His flatstick was a one month old L.A.B.  We exchanged numbers and will play together again soon.  

 

It never hit the forecasted 91* while we were out there. 88* was the official high temp for the 25th of June in Asheville. That just had to contribute something to my dandy play. 😀

 

To shoot that score on that difficult golf course had me way jazzed. It certainly doesn't happen very often to me, but when it does it's about as good of a golf high that one can experience. ⚡⛳

I played the Valero course at some warm time of the year when I was at a work thing.  El Paso is stifling hot.  At the end of the round I had to sit in my hotel room and just drink water for over an hour because I was loopy.  It was so hot.  I think the only person welcoming people to TX in the summer is Satan, just to give you a preview of your existence if you take the last slice of pizza at a party.

That was a 60°. Solid wedge but was low bounce and at the time; I was getting into MORE bounce.

... @NCLancer is insanely excited about Hard Knocks starting soon and has already downloaded Da Bearz schedule and can't wait to post about Caleb Williams. @Double Mocha Man has already awarded the MVP trophy to Michael Penix Jr.  @NJBigFish22  is secretly hoping for an "I told you so" with Drake Maye.  And I imagine all are looking forward to watching McCarthy and Nix before they are traded to another team as a back up. So yea, now that the very exciting hockey season has ended we are ready for some football!!!  😇

.... Even though he puts up gaudy numbers during the regular season, I don't think Cousins can get any team to the SB. He has consistently underperformed in Big Games so I expect to see Penix sometime this season.

It was hot today, but not awful. Had a decent breeze most of the day and stayed well hydrated. I had forgotten just how effective that neck wrap is. I kept it in the cooler and would pull it out every 30 minutes or so, wearing it for about 5-10 minutes at a time.

 

Greens had been recently aerated and were pretty heavily sanded. I couldn’t get anything to fall. Never could get distance judged. Missed several of 5-6’. I had - get ready - 40 putts! Shot an 89 with 40 freakin putts. I haven’t even counted the number of 3 putts - I’m just trying to put it behind me. I hit 11/14 fairways and 9 GIR, so tee to green I was average to above average for my game.

 

Finally remembered to get some pictures. Not as picturesque as others posted here, but a fun and challenging course.

Add my initials to that esteemed list.  I just picked up a set of Titleist T200 irons, like P3P they have the True Temper steel AMT Red shafts... known for a higher launch with a sharp descent, drop and stop.  Range time with them the last 2 days saw me gaining 8-10 yards without any loft creep over my old Callaways.  Along with my new Srixon ZX5 driver give me a week to get my handicap into plus territory! 😁

No golf for me today. Woke up yesterday with crazy body aches and stomach…..issues. 🙁 Then had to drive a little over 4h round trip to collect my son from camp. Not feeling any better this AM so I’m going to read today. 
 

FedEx bringing a bunch of cool stuff too. 

• Two Arnold Palmer Puma shirts, one for me, one for my buddy coming in from AZ for our member-guest on the 11th. Figured Arnie was on point for an event here. 
• Sick pair of Puma golf shoes, I’ve never worn Pumas but could not resist these and I hope they fit.
• New Cleveland SmartSole SW. The GW showed up a couple weeks ago and it’s perfect for me. Can’t wait for the SW. 
• Custom made little leather case for my new insulin pump, made by an Amish man in Indiana. Incredible that my new pump is smaller than an iPods Pro case!

On the SmartSole wedge, I never could have played that before. In fact, I played the OG Eye 2 SW and LW forever. Could manufacture all kinds of shots with those, lay it totally open, make it spin left or spin right…I used to pride myself on all that creativity. But now is different. Somewhat more conservative, yes, but I’d say it’s more about keeping things as simple as possible. The SmartSole sort of looks like a hacker club but I have zero ego left there. 🙂 Besides, you cannot see that big ole flange at address. 
 

I am also testing myself to get over my matching compulsion.  The GW is black, so is the shaft (PX Catalyst spinner.) Cleveland goofed and sold me the GW and SW in black when the SW head is out of stock, obsolete, and will never be in stock. So they’ve sent me a SW in the satin finish….and my wedges won’t match…..I think I’ll be ok. 🙂
