... Long story short is I transferred from a really big city school when our new coach said after 3 weeks of practice, he wanted to start a sophomore at QB and told me I would be playing safety. The sophomore sucked but the new coach figured he would be good by his senior year and it would take that long to fully implement his offense and the first 2 seasons were "throw away" years. LOL, that went over big with the seniors.

... I found a County school I could transfer to and start in 5 days. Problem was the only QB number available was worn by the 2nd string QB that had that number since Middle School. He would have to wear #30 and give me #12. Since the starter was now the back up and Barry would be 3rd string and probably never get to play. I just couldn't take his number from him, so I took #30. Coach tried to fight me on it but I told him I absolutely wasn't taking Barrys number. Most players were pi$$ed I transferred 5 days before the first game and this really helped take away the sting and proved I wasn't a prima donna. Back then NOBODY wore QB numbers that were not between 10-19. 

... The really cool part of the story is my parents needed their roof replaced about 20 years later. The roofing guy shows up and gives them an estimate and since he was highly recommended that agreed even though it was a little more than they could afford at that time. When he starts getting all the info, he finds out I was their son. He tells them I didn't take his number #12 when he played football and he would do the job for cost and said he was more grateful than they would ever know and he always wanted to pay me back. So he did. 

... I am #30 in the front row.

My very first memories of music, though ... are being in the car with my mom. And she LOVED MoTown. (And Elvis. A gal growing up in the south in the 50s ... of course she loved Elvis). 

 

I struggle to nail just a single one song down. So many I'll just hear at random and it'll strike something in me and I'll get a lil choked up and be like "WTF is even happening?" And then I'm like "Oh yeah ... heard this with mom." 

 

So I'll just drop this one.

 

 

And talk about drum sound @chisag? Listen to THAT. Feel like I don't even have to mention Wall of Sound 🙂

I just got fit and ordered a new set of clubs.  My biggest issue was height and distance.  My Honmas had Modus 105 R shafts.  I didn’t have surgery, but with the 3 back fractures, and a heeled Rotator Cuff injury, but with arthritis in my shoulder I was going to experiment with different shafts.  Instead my club was having a fitting so I went.  My fitter was really good, he made swing recommendations if needed and tried different things. So my average height was between 32-34 feet, after the fit, my height increased to 52-55 feet, highest was mid 60’s.  This also helped increase my carry by about 20 yards as well on average.  I ended up with a combo set of Titleist with Recoil Shafts at 66 gram shaft.  I also found out my clubs should be flat and standard length.  We tried driver next and do to my path and just finishing the iron fit, we cut it short.  If my swing improves I would definitely get fit again.  I can always look for used or maybe find a better lighter weight and different flex that may work better for me.
 

 I think there are advantages in club technology, but if you don’t have a consistent swing, you probably won’t recognize any advantage.  My suggestion after all my rambling is get fit, you may walk away with valuable knowledge on which shaft is best for you after your recovery.  

Those Recoil shafts are the ticket. If I was not so stoked on my Steel Fibers that is what I would be playing (thanks @chisag) . I was chasing the distance thing after my injury also. I had to sit down and revamp my whole set up and game. I also had to realize that I was also older. But IMHO with the Recoil Shafts you will be able to play more and the more you play the better you will get both physically and on the golf game end

... As a musician you must get a kick out of Motown groups that had no musicians! Just singers and the producers hired jazz session musicians. No wonder the music of Motown was so dammed good.

I’m not surprised! One guy chimed in in the tour thread saying “I can’t believe an athlete sweating is causing such an uproar…”. I’m thinking bro, that is NOT ur average athlete sweating! That’s a crazy swamp butt seepage situation! 🤢 My GF walked in from a day out during the playoff. She looked at the screen and saw Glover and immediately said “OMG, what’s wrong with that guys pants?!”… Not normal! 😂

Absolutely!!! On pulled pork it would be a toss up for me on Parker's in Greenville or Cooper's in Raliegh. Now back in the day it was Respress James in Greenville in fact @Mitchell who comes on here from time to time is kin to them. Now I will give a honorable mention to the now defunct Roger's BBQ in Charlotte they were real close

I am mixed on drifting--- But then again running dirt I liked running sideways loved the rush of the wind through the passenger side window. But there was a happy medium there too much sideways and you were losing ground. I ran asphalt some but was too rough on tires especially the right side.

Most of the time the back up Musicians were the Funk Brothers. They were on a bunch of Motown stuff. In fact one of the original Funk Brothers passed away the other day. IMHO some of their best work was later on with Joan Osborne

Being an ex racer you can relate to this---- People have not seen real swamp butt until you see someone crawl out of a dirt track car after a 100 lapper in the summer. But then again the red clay mud can disguise it some.

... I have the DVD Standing In The Shadows Of Motown and it is just an amazing documentary. (Tiscape wouldn't even have to read anything) But these great Detroit jazz musicians would play the clubs til 5 or 6 in the morning, then head over to the Motown "studios" which were basically a converted house and lay down tracks for Big $$$. Said playing pop for cash allowed them to play what they wanted, where they wanted, with who they wanted in the clubs and didn't have to worry about pleasing anyone but each other and true Jazz lovers. Finish at Motown, get some sleep and do it again the next day. They were living the dream.

  Because I was raised in Detroit during that time I was fortunate to hear that damned good music all over the place while growing up, and I think in doing so it made me a music lover at quite a young age. I know Motown music also brought the dancer out in me. I used to have my parents play the radio loud in the house and I would put on a singing and dancing show with my sister for them. We wrapped turkey basters in aluminum foil and used those as our microphones. 😀

I too chisag had a transistor AM radio, and that was my second favorite possession after my bicycle.
