It's a dirty secret in the music biz that what you hear on records ain't necessarily the bands you see on stage. All the whoopla around Josh Freese in the Foos now and people are like "Who's this guy?!" and I'm like ... yall been hearing this guy for 30 years, you just didn't know it. Producers and studio time is expensive and playing in the studio is NOT easy. You can't put down your parts; they'll bring in someone who can double fast. Josh is one of them. 

 

I'm far from the flashiest or or choppiest drummer but I'm pretty proud that every record any band I've been in has recorded; not only is it me on the tracks, it's never taken more than a take or two to lay down my parts. 

 

The compliment I get the most from other musicians is about my timekeeping. One of the other bands on the last tour referred to me as "the metronome." When I listen back to stuff; I'm paying attention to my time and if I rush or drag I'm all "Aw man, wtf did I do? How'd that happen?" (Of course listen to other stuff ... heard a clip from last night and I tried a little triplet thing that was just sloppy as hell and I was like "Welp, not gonna do THAT again. 😂")

Parker's was dad's favorite. 

 

He was a VA appraiser and the only one in a good hundred or so mile radius so he traveled all over central NC. 

 

There was a place called Ron's Barn ... one in Sanford and one in Coats. Might still be there. That was always my favorite.

It’s funny.  I sweat similarly.  I soaked a T shirt this afternoon in about 35 minutes pulling 25 watermelons and loading them into the Truck.  I came back inside and changed shirts before eating a late lunch.  Then went back out and soaked another. .  I’ve always sweated that much.  Everywhere except my feet and hands.  My hands do not sweat.  Perpetually dry.  
 

but I also believe that i regulate heat better than most.  I can take it.  It doesn’t physically take me out of commission.  I prefer cooler temps , but I don’t shut down in extreme heat …. As long as I can have access to unlimited water.  For obvious above mentioned reason.  
 

also funny.  It toook me years to understand why guys would have 4-5 gloves clamped to a cart while playing. I just assumed some form of ocd.  A glove lasts me 6 months or more.   I practice without one.  Could easily play without one . 
 

then my kid came along and I now see why.  His hands are so sweaty we got him a special cream to stop it for basketball season.

Lol.  Well you will understand that as a gamecock guy , it’s against my upbringing to pull for a Clemson tiger ….. 😂 but I make a couple exceptions… Lucas and DJ Trahan being 2 of those.   
 

nah.  Today was easier than yesterday.  Loading watermelons is quick and you get rid of the whole load at once ( we have a restaurant that will buy  a load at a time when in season )    Last 3 days has been pea picking after or before work … that’s hard on the back.  But I’m not nearly doing all of that. I’m just helping out .

Oh trust me blade in my decade + in Asheville I have learned how strong the division is between SC and Clemson folk. I did know you were a Gamecock. Still to have an Upstate'r dominate the TOUR's headlines for two weeks is pretty neat.

Yeah, I sweat easily and run on the hot side as well… I think this was more about where all his sweat was. He sweating out his entire crotch, butt and upper legs. Quite unique and I don’t recall ever seeing a similar situation on the golf course. That’s why this was a “story” IMO.

The first Alt Country record?  As a Byrds aficionado, was certainly different than their prior albums.  Took some listens to fully appreciate it.  Now 50 years on, recognized for what it is.  A seminal recording.

Not all of them-- That is a Columbia and Midlands deal--- Upstate tends to do what they call BBQ hash which can be done different ways. The Low Country and the Grand Strand tends to do it vinegar based Eastern NC style. Now some in my area do a tomato based sauce which aint too bad.
