Club fitting Charlotte NC

I'm looking to see if anyone has had a good experience with club fitting in the Charlotte area. I'm about 30 minutes north of Charlotte but willing to drive for a good fitting. Had one last year and it just left a lot to be desired.

I'm up in Winston-Salem and have done a few around here. Big no against Club Champion, they are only interested in selling clubs, not making you better. I almost wish they'd leave me alone in there so I can hit whatever I like!

 

The best one I've had is with True Spec at Pine Needles. Still more commercial than I'd like but you're seeing real ball flight and you can hit some off the turf. I'm sure there are some other guys out there just as good on an individual basis, it's just finding one with a decent array of heads and shafts. I play low launch, low spin X shafts and not many places stock those on the fitting rack.

Used to live there. Other than the larger ones like CC and golftec, check out Golf Shop in Mooresville or Carolina golf manufacturing in Charlotte. They are small but pretty good.

Victory Custom Golf is great.  He is located in Clover SC (Lake Wylie) area just South of Charlotte.

@ry1808 Agreed on club champion. I've seen to many videos of a 15 handicap walking in and they stick $1300 driver in their hand first thing. I'd like a few stock options to test cause why not try and save $300?

 

@sociojeje The golf shop was my one experience. He seemed knowledgeable, but just didn't have much available to test at all. And it was strictly head/shaft combos. I'd like to experiment with some swing weights or length as well.

I go to Wake Forest and 1000000% recommend you go to Tee Time Golf in Asheboro. Barry and Dustin are really good at what they do and are much for concerned with getting you in the best stuff possible instead of upcharging on a shaft you don't need. Also, if you buy clubs from them the entire fitting is free

there's one just north of me in Elkin. Are they the same company?

I don't believe so. I think it's a pretty small operation so I'd be shocked if it was a franchise. I also recommend you go to the one in Asheboro because I think Barry and Dustin are both great fitters and I can't speak for the other location if they do happen to be a part of the same company

There are two different types of "club fitters" in my opinion. 

 

If you want the big selection to able to hit all the latest and greatest shafts? Then there isn't any choice than to go to the likes of a CC or similar. Or go to one of the OEM' s demo days. 

 

No small guy is going to have that large of a selection. 

 

I will say it seems as though the OEM's have upped the selection in their fitting systems.

i have been through most of these places within the last 6 or so years, not been recently though...

 

ken at victory custom golf is a good guy.  not sure of his selection now, it's been several years since I went to see him.  good amount of knowledge though.

 

been to cc in charlotte when it first opened.  nice folks but expensive and hitting off a mat into a screen isn't a true fitting in my opinion.  I play a cut and have for years, on the sim I was drawing everything.  told the guy that isn't right and he wouldn't believe me.  all the clubs swingweights were way heavy.  the driver i ended up being fit for was like d9 or e0

 

next year went to fitting at true spec at pine needles.  same process and pricing as club champion but seeing actual ball flight and ability to hit off grass was far more better.  good folks there too

 

there's a guy at knollwood in pinehurst that does a pretty good job with ping stuff if you are interested.  not as much selection but very knowledgeable and able to hit off real grass with a good launch monitor - he can get you started in the right direction and won't try to upsell you stuff you don't need.

Appreciate all the feedback and ideas. I genuinely think some of the fitting places we see on youtube just ruin all expectations. Honestly id just love a place to get access to gear and numbers and fit myself!

I will throw out Curtis at Leatherman’s.   He is very knowledgeable and has a decent collection of shafts and heads to try; no where near what CC has.   He is all about results and does not force you to buy anything.     I just had a very good experience and results on the course were spot on.  Plus, you hit on the range and get to see ball flight vs indoor crap that I hate.
