Love the phrase, feels like being transported back to 19th century England.

I'm going to work a few of these types of phrases into some future posts, for everyone's amusement (really just for mine).

Oh, hang on, I used the words 'transported' with '19th century', not a good combination for some Australians.

is a Pom = a person who stayed behind in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

... or who sailed to Australia 🇦🇺 ?

Not quite either, a Pom is an Englishman.

Of course a Pom is able to travel to Australia, the term 'Ten Pound Poms' (what I suspect you are referring to) is a colloquial term used in Australia and New Zealand to describe British citizens who migrated to Australia and New Zealand after the Second World War.

That's how my parents from London came to Australia in the 1950's.

'Pom' is an interesting word in that most Aussies just use it as slang to represent an Englishman (not really used to denote an English woman) but sometimes its delivered with a little spite and so some English sometimes take mild offence to it. In that context, it comes up a lot when Australia play England in cricket.😂

I thought a Pom was Prisoner of his/her Majesty.

As in a convict, and thus Poms were shipped to Australia.

Maybe that's how the term started but certainly not how Aussies have use it for 80+ years  eg we play the poms at cricket, which of course doesn't mean we are playing ourselves.

No Englishman would ever call an Aussie a pom now, just wouldn't make sense in how the word is used today.

Maybe your example is why some English take offence at being called a pom?

I just looked it up, apparently its from rhyming slang for immigrant, short for pomegranate, a reference to the English pale skin and for getting sunburn.

There you go...

Now back to the golf 🏌️

Has anyone else noticed Danielle Kang's Mickelson-/Napa-style heel-shafted putter? (We don't see these often?)

"Danielle Kang moonlights as a putter maker(!), surges up leaderboard in Singapore"

The pelting rain and a nearly 3½ hour weather delay in Singapore couldn't stop Danielle Kang from storming up the leaderboard Friday, jumping from T-29 to take the lead at the HSBC Women's World Championship. The six-time LPGA Tour winner tied a career-best bogey-free 63 with a staunch performance from the newest weapon in her bag: 25 putts by a one-of-a-kind putter stamped “DK Special” built by Scotty Cameron himself.

“It was really cool,” Kang said of making her putter, “because I had an idea, then Mr. Scotty Cameron sketched it out, and then all of a sudden my thoughts became real. He molded them, and then we spent hours, and I think it took days for him to make these molds.

“And then I was with him for seven hours straight, grinding them, making it, buffering, lie lofting. It was incredible for me to watch. And I absolutely love that putter.”

Not correct now, I'm afraid, no matter what your reference is.

A pom is what an Aussie (and a Kiwi) calls an Englishman.

That's the reality today.

Now back to the golf.

BTW, there was no golf going on when this exchange was happening, there was a weather break.

How God awful has this commentary been?

Can handle maybe 30 minutes, then it has to go on mute.

Try again after 30 minutes and back it goes on mute.

What is the LPGAT doing entrusting an events commentary to those 3?

Yep, if she doesn't cut it then she's not up to a Solheim spot....probably.

Oh, wait, Brittany Altomare, Yealimi Noh.....

This Solheim will be no place for those that can't perform under pressure.

I can't wait!
