Scam or no Scam?

I had something interesting happen last evening, that I believe was a scam from someone using a hacked account. I just wanted to post it here to see what you guys think, and maybe help someone else from getting scammed by the same person.  I have some Z585 iron heads for sale, and I put in the Ad, that shipping was CONUS only.  I had a Canadian fellow wanting to know if I would ship to Canada, and I told him if he wanted to pay the shipping, which is pretty expensive, that I would.  He said he would pay with Paypal.  I informed him that I needed his complete mailing address, his email. and a telephone #.  The email and Tel# are required on the customs forms needed to go on the package.  He sent me his address, and just ignored the Tel# and email request.  I then get a PM from him asking, "what bank do you want me to send this to?" He included three different links.  One was a picture of a credit card, 2nd was a picture of a Debit card, and 3rd was a picture of "Walmart cash".  I never clicked on any links, as I'm sure it would ask for credit/debit card #'s and bank name.  I responded to him that I had never heard of such a thing with Paypal, and to get it strait with Paypal.  He sent another PM stating, "these are the only options Paypal is giving me."  I pm'd back saying the sale was now off the table and I smelled something a little fishy.  He responded, I've been a member since 2003, I'm not fishy, good luck!

For what it's worth, he had not posted since 2017, until he posted on my ad, and he has not logged on again since his last email to me.  I'll be the first to apologize to him if this is legit, but I think it's a hacked account.

Any Canadians out there using Paypal, that have ever heard of Paypal using this practice.  Thanks in advance for any replies.

This is a scam. It's a fishing scam to try to get you to fill out information and he steals your credit card info. As long as he has your email he can send you money.

Thanks for the reply Jc0. Just what I figured it was, and he hasn’t logged in since.

The hacked account is “chairs59” for a head up to all.

Something's strange, that's for sure.

 

Firstly, do no ship to ANY address other than the user's PAYPAL address.

 

He pays your PAYPAL account, not any bank of yours, so his question makes no sense. He FUNDS his account via credit card or bank account in order to pay.

 

As for those pics,,,,,,, DO NOT CLICK on them, but hover your mouse over each pic and see what URL shows up (usually) in the lower left hand corner of your browser. If the pic is a bogus link, it'll show a goobledygook of letter and numbers that have no bearing on the pic. If the pic is a legitimate link to said service, your will find the service's NAME somewhere in the URL and it's likely a legitimate link.

 

But yeah, does sound a bit fishy.

For what it's worth, he can't be a member here since 2003.  The site was started in 2005 according to the site itself.

Fwiw, his posting history shows him mostly buying and selling on the site. Prior to this, his last poting was in 2017.

 

No feedback. Not sure when Feedback officially started.

 

So hacked ? Doesn't really sound like it. I'd still wonder a bit about his apparent lack of PP knowledge. Then again, not everybody knows how PP works.

nsxguy, no it wasn't me who made the mistake.  He actually stated he had been a member since 2003.  That, among a lot of other things, is why I believe it to be a hacked account.

Bah! I thought that I did click on it. It's funny, because I stared at my post for about fifteen seconds thinking "something doesn't look right..." 

 

Then I shrugged and headed back into the BST to indulge my habit some more.

100% scam. I've done quite a few deals/ecom for many different items across multiple platforms, and if someone won't be direct when it comes to payment options, immediate red flag.

He disappeared right after our discussion for about 36 hours. He logged in 5 hours hours ago. He probably saw this thread, and knows he’s been outed.

I’ve been on this site since 2005 I’m sure my verified profile states that sorry my brain isn’t always verified. Since I’m OG since 05 why not 03
 

I was simply selecting the option below instead of pay by phone. 
Then I get banned with a perfect record since 2005. If you wanted to continue the conversation after good luck you could have replied to it. 
 

Yeah I don’t post much I like to read and stay out of it unless I need some equipment for which my history selling and buying is perfect.

My apologies to Chris (chairs59) for the misunderstanding. I was convinced that your account had been hacked and was being used by a scammer.  I am sincerely sorry for the mistake, and I will try to be more diligent in the future.  
I would like to thank the mods of this forum for taking the time and getting to the bottom of this.  As Chris stated, GolfWRX is the best!
