For me it was six months. And nine holes was enough to make me sore.

But I had six. We only knew for sure of two, on in my belly button and one left inguinal. When the doctor was in there there were actually two left inguinal and three on the right.

I wasn’t one of the lucky ones where they are back to normal after a few weeks.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

It somewhat depends on if you're having a laparoscopic procedure or an open one. But in general you should be able to ease back into chipping and putting in 3-4 weeks, and golf as normal in 6-8 weeks.  You'll be really sore at first (especially with an open procedure) which will self-limit your activities.  Just ease back into it slowly.  You absolutely do not want to have to redo your repair.

Laparoscopic, I got it done today. Follow up is April 5th so ill ask more questions then. Either way I got time to kill with building a simulation and fishing til swamp season clears up

I had an emergency abdominal surgery and didn’t properly lay off. I ended up with six hernias which were corrected in an extensive surgery. This was due to too much weights, activity, and yes, golf, after the first surgery.
So , just go slow. Just putt and chip for  at least 1-2 months. Let everything heal up.
Best wishes on your surgery and recovery!

"Get dressed Spaulding, you're playing golf today."
" No I'm not Grandpa, I'm playing tennis."
"No, you're playing golf and you're going to like it."

  • 11 months later...

I haiarobotic laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery on February 21. I started pitching at about two and half weeks. I had my first real range session today, but still nothing more than a 9 iron. So 3 1/1 weeks out from the surgery. While hitting I felt no real pain at all, I have more issue with bending at the waist to tie my shoes.

I'll give an update tomorrow as to any tenderness and pain, but nothing significant tonight. I would have to say I have some mildly tenderness tonight, but no real issues. Probably won't hit again for a few days.

Thought I'd add... I'm 63 yrs old.

I had 2 done at once.  Could chip and pitch in a week and full swings at 3 weeks.  The place I had it done only works on this.  The doctor said the method they use here (I do not understand the difference) would allow me to not worry about any damage from golf, so to swing away whenever I wanted to.  If you are near this place I would recommend them ....

FYI. No issues from the session. Felt so good, spent 1 1/2 hours in the short game area this morning.

Hoping to get in my first round at  next week, or Easter weekend. Will work into long irons and woods this week

Good luck for anyone with surgery. Now if I could just get rid of my shoulder bursitis...

I had robotic laparoscopy surgery on an inguinal hernia last year in February. Doctor cleared me after three weeks to do whatever I wanted, within reason. I was out chipping putting after two days. Hitting wedges after about five days. I waited maybe three weeks to hit full swings, but not hard. I was back to playing after a month with no issues.

Kind of sounds like my schedule. I will be a month out this week, and will probably try to play this weekend.
