i play the AVX, I do want to try the 2023 pro v1

Titleist keeps messing with ProV profiles.  I played ProV1x for a long time, then switched to ProV1 for some years, then switched to AVX.  Though surface patterns are different between ProV1 and AVX, they feel similar at impact, trajectory differs, but they are nearly the same distance for me.  New ProV1x spins great off irons but trajectory it too high and spin too much for -AoA off driver. 

 

ProV1 spins more than AVX on FAST greens, but AVX has lower spin off my irons.  During warm to hot weather here in CA, I play DASH -ProV1x, which is low spin ball; works great off irons and driver too.  However, last week found kindred spirit in Callaway's Chrome Soft X, seems to work nicely off irons and woods, and spins nicely on fast greens and doesn't care about temp.  Go figure...now I am confused... LOL

 

Funny, Titleist ball fitter says ProV1x and my alternate is ProV1.  Second time when with slightly different input, said ProV1 and alternate AVX.

I like AVX with irons, but hate it on driver (over compress it) and chipping/putting.  It feels like a marshmallow.

Last year i've been flitting between the AVX and Pro V1 2021, i tend to lean to the AVX as i like the flight of them and can work them around the green, but the 2021 Pro V1 always worked well in summer conditions, the 2023 Pro V1 sounds like it spins a little more and goes a little higher, so closing the gap on the Pro V1x, rather than the AVX, which could mean AVX will be the ball this year for me, or hope the last dozen Pro V1 2021 i have last.

I’ve played both a decent amount and in short I find the APX to spin a bit less off my irons and around the green. Ball flight also seems a little lower. I haven’t noticed a significant difference off the driver. I could play either, but prefer ProV1 just a bit in most conditions. 

 

For what it’s worth, I’ve never played very well with the ProV1X when I’ve tried it. 

 

Disclaimer, I have not tried the new version of ProV1 yet as I still have some balls left over from last year.

that’s like saying my i weigh less when i’m standing on hardwood than when i’m on carpet.

Sorry, it's more complex than I made it sound.  I am not an agronomist just an x-equity-BOD recipient of green and bunker complex subject-matter drilled into the BOD heads for ideal PGA & USGA desired greens and bunkers.   The unfortunate aspect of this subject, superintendents and designers, though they may be lurking, seldom, if ever, contribute here.

 

I am not talking about green care, but the surface and subsurface of a green as it relates to turf speed, surface hardness, and ball spin.  Lots of local greens can be fast and firm, but what's directly under the green surface is what determines if a green is receptive to ball spin, and allows the ball to check on fast greens or run off the other side. 

 

There's a difficult fantastic looking course that I visit where greens are hard and fast.   I spin the ball a lot, but to card a good score there, I have to land the ball short of the green to get the ball to stop on the green, otherwise, it runs off the green.  Depending on the configuration of each green, even from 130+ out, the ball will hit, bounce maybe a few times and run, hopefully it stays on.  IMO reason is there's no quality subsurface to speak of, just greens on top of a packed sand and gravel medium, even dirt and drainage.
