Titleist Players 4 bag ... why is the top divider so small? Teach me.

I have a Titleist Players 4 StayDry bag.  It's the same 4 way divider as the non StayDry bag as well as the Players 4 Carbon.  I generally love the bag and feel like it's better quality than a Ping Hoofer Lite (my next best choice).

However, why is the top divider (for woods) significantly smaller than the bottom divider (wedges)?  Shouldn't it be the same?  In most other bags, the top divider and bottom divider are much more even in size.

Ideally I want to put 4 clubs in the top (driver, 3w, hybrid, putter), 4 in the bottom (pw, gw, sw, lw), and three in each of the sides (4/5/6, and 7/8/9).  Should I be putting 5 clubs in the bottom?  It's mildly infuriating.  Teach me how to Titleist bag.

But the reason for the wide bottom, narrow top shape is the bag hangs very closely to your body and is easy to reach over or around with your right arm. That bag, like the Titleist Ultralight series years ago, is optimized for compactness and ease of handling. At the expense, as you've noticed, of not being very suitable for someone wanting to carry 4 or 5 clubs with headcovers. 

 

When I used to travel each year to the UK and was schlepping my my way through train stations and in and out of B&B's with golf bag on one shoulder and soft-sided suitcase on the other, I really appreciated that compact design. When I was at home just playing a normal round of golf, I hated struggling to get clubs in and out of the darned thing.

I get that the bag is smaller for compactness, but it still doesn't quite explain why the divider is so uneven.  There are plenty of bags in it's same category and weight class that have better top dividers.  Even the LinksLegend, which is a similar size bag for walking, has a better more even divider.  Why couldn't they do this for the Players 4 and Carbon bags?

I have Titleist players 4+ and I think the + bit is larger dividers

I use the carbon 4 and put driver, fw, putter at the top, 4i or hybrid, 5,6, on the right, 7,8,9 on the left and 5 wedges in the bottom slot which creates good balance.  I found the durability to be a bigger issue than the dividers.

I have the stadry 4+  and hate it. If its on the stand and you pull a club out your never getting that thing back in there without standing the bag up straight. Annoying on the range annoying on the course. 

 

The divider material is garbage aswell next to no padding when there could be $$$$ of shafts. Maybe there in cahoots with the shaft manufacturers. 😂

 

Ps, don't leave the bag in the sun for more than 60seconds or touch any zips ever. 

 

As for Sunday bags.....  Those guys using them deserve to have the shafts and iron heads rubbed and chattered.

I like my staydry 4+, my clubs don't seem to have the same issues, do you use midsize grips?

Standard grips, nothing in the big pocket that's pushing through. I always need to stand it upright to get clubs back in. 

In the top - Dr +3w+putter

When I used my Player 4 StaDry, it was with standard grips (Tour Velvet mostly), often only 12 or 13 clubs and I seldom had anything more than a couple of gloves or a few scorecards in the big pocket.

 

And it still jammed up the grips unless I did the "trick" of holding the bag up with one hand while inserting the club with the other.

 

That compact of a bag with that tilting floor mechanism is just going to jam clubs together, period.

my P4 StaDry.

12 clubs -

three clubs in the top , the irons  split between the middle sections , putter & two wedges on the bottom section.

there are times the "stand it upright" is necessary.

 

my TM FlexTech Lite has a bit more room for clubs, enough to make a difference.

 

I think all modern stand bags have some sort of snugness in the bottom.

 

the last 'roomy' stand bag I carried was a Lynx 4-way with a triangle shaped top - that thing never snagged a club.   the top opening measures 9"x7".

I just got the Players 4 a week or so go - I tend to just use carry bags when I am away or when I run down to the range but because it is new, I have had it out the past 2-3 games I have played and I too have noticed the problem with the top divider. I have Driver, 3 wood, 1 iron and putter in there. My putter with the superstroke grip coming out is just a pest! Everytime it comes out, something else comes with it.

Mine has the square cut out on the base for locating it on a cart which I find quite funny given that it need stood upright for clubs to be put back in 😂 (not sure if the latest ones still have that feature, if they don't then that will be the reason)

Just bought the players 4 stadry for a trip to Scotland and loaded it up.  You are absolutely right, the top is too small to easily fit my clubs.  That is not the case with my regular bag which is a non-stadry players 4 from about 4 years ago.  It’s really strange.  
 

The new one will be used for trips to rainy areas only

I had a players 4+ for about 3-4 years. Decent bag it worked well for me but had bag club tangle for midsize grips and superstroke putter. Newer version of the 4 top was so tiny I couldn't even consider that. Seems that they changed the plus model to a players 5 which didn't give any more room than the 4+. I needed a new bag and wanted a Titleist again but went and got a Vessel pro instead for more room. Pricey but hopefully more durable over the years than my players bag. Not sure what they were thinking with such small tops in their bags, fix that and they have pretty solid carry bags.
