Playing in the heat

Black/light doesn't matter. At least not to me. I'll wear all black if it's 0 or 100.

I agree, it makes no difference to me.

I don’t wear white golf shirts because sweat and sunscreen make them look terrible in short order.

Unless it’s dawn you’re nuts being out there during this heat.

Yep. SE Louisiana here. Worst of all worlds for heat right now.

I might play 9, but 18 is too much in this.

I played 3 the other day and went back in after 3 pars. Not worth it.

Although, the ball was flying like crazy.

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but one should always wear light colored clothing when outside in the heat. SPF 30-50 light weight and light color works best. That way you skip the sunscreen that seals the heat in and doesn't let your skin breathe. There are several brands of clothing that suits this situation. There's a reason those who live in the middle-east, which is far hotter than here, cover their skin from the sun.

BT

I get what you mean but most abayas that women in the middle east wear are black!! Though most men are wearing white!!

I tend to agree...I feel no cooler wearing all black or all white...just as long as my skin is covered up. Oh and when I walk the course the umbrella is mandatory!

Scientists hypothesise that the Zebra has optimised colour code for heat loss. See, nature always gets it right.

FACTS!!

A hypothesis, dear boy, is not a fact at least until it’s undergone empirical testing and peer-review . But see:

“ New research published in the Journal of Natural History indicates that the stripes are used to control body temperature, and it reveals for the first time a new mechanism for how this cooling may be achieved. “

Enjoy disputing this with the papers authors.

p.s. Nice to see Newcastle United’s strip colours have a purpose.

I have to be careful not to overdo hydration or my hands start sweating like crazy. I tend to wear a rain glove on really hot days to manage sweat better.

The other thing to consider...call me crazy...is simply not playing golf in extreme temperatures. Almost everyone has a lower limit on the temperature they'll play in. There's no shame in having an upper limit as well.

Teed off at 7:00 this morning and it was 107 by the time we finished. Supposed to get up to 116 today.

I live in TX and have been walking all summer in 110+ heat index conditions with high humidity. If you think you have it bad, just see all of the roofers in my neighborhood right now fixing hail damage! Walking is cooler for me as I can walk to the shade while carts are stuck on the path.

A few things:

1) push cart and sun umbrella are essential

2) I probably drink 200 ounces of water during a round. I carry 72 ounces with me, drink 24 before teeing off, and by the turn, I am drinking 24 as I fill up my bottle. I still won't pee for hours after getting home. I add an electrolyte tablet or 2 to each bottle (NUUN).

3) I look like I jumped in a pool by the 4th hole; between the 9th and 10 hole, I always change shoes and socks. I risk blisters otherwise.

4) I use anti chafe cream on my parts down there that can chafe. Once your underwear is soaked through, it can get pretty painful. I like DZ Nuts (it's a cycling chamois cream with cooling additives).

5) I have a change of clothes in the car and a towel ready.

6) condition yourself to the heat and be in good health overall (see roofers above)

Honestly, I am out there enough that I don't even notice the heat. It doesn't bother me whatsoever.  What sucks is dealing with the intense sweat and moisture. It sucks playing when your clothes weigh 10lbs and you go through 5 gloves a round. Not much I can do though.

If you aren't playing in the heat in Texas this summer, you aren't playing.

Absolutely hardcore and #3-4 made me lol

I've been running summer practices for my high school girls golf team and somehow they never even sweat while hitting balls or walking 9 holes. Meanwhile I'm soaked through just standing there in the shade watching them. Hard to demonstrate a putting stroke when you have sweat pouring off your face onto the golf ball while in a putting stance. Just insane sometimes.

Yeah-I get that. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle-almost. But I have a big tournament coming up end of August and don't want to say I didn't put in the time I needed to. Tonight wasn't that bad: temp was 104 at tee time but the dew point was only 62. That's a big improvement from the 68-70 I have seen for the past 2 months of insane humidity.

Not sweating is weird; it may be a younger person's thing though. My high school cross country coach would be dripping sweat after warming up with us before our workout (2 or so miles). I hadn't even broken a sweat. This was the coast, so it was typically 60 degrees and with a cool breeze. We always made fun of him, but he said that his cooling system was simply working really well. That's me now!

They are sweating most likely, it's just not enough overcome the rate of evaporation. If they weren't sweating at all then they need medical attention.

Dunno where you are. The humidity here is special. It'll add 10-20 degrees of "feels like," and sometimes feels like you're swimming through it.

If you're in AZ or NM or parts of W Texas though, I get it.

One of the hottest days I can ever recall was in NM w a girlfriend on a road trip and we played mini golf on a black top that was like a level of hell.

Phoenix AZ like the OP. Humidity sucks yes but even with humidity it’s still not 119
