Man this is getting tough.... getting old SUCKS!

You may periodically want to experiment to see if you can do anything with your arm to see if you can restore some of the neural connections to your brain.

Think of it as starting a fire with a spark from a piece of metal.  It may take a lot of time and effort to get a fire started that way.

I do all the excersizes the therapists gave me to help. There is small improvement. A few days ago I was able to flex 3 of 5 fingers which I couldn't do before. The therapists also told me that whatever movement I can get in 18 months is probably all I'll have so I've got 12 more months to work on it.

I manage my weight by cooking small portions of good food.   My favorite market had a sale on tenderloin so I bought two small steaks and marinated them yesterday for more flavor.

Exactly your first sentence.  'Less, but better.'

The keto posts earlier in the thread help considerably as well, @spineguy.  I FTF;  I love carbs too!  I have a "Baguette Guy".  But I can't eat 'em and lose weight, and like you, and I'm sure, a lot of the people reading, I need to lose the weight first.

(Who else saw the thread title in their feed, saw the poster who started it, and had their backs wince too?  Lol.)

Improving your mobility would do you a lot of good, and not just for golf. Yoga is probably the most accessible way to start, but you have to push yourself (you're not going to get anywhere just lying there). (I would avoid 'Yoga for seniors' classes.😏)

Daily dead-hangs from a pull-up bar have a YUGE bang for your buck. They decompress almost the entire spine (not the neck), they improve shoulder mobility, and they improve grip strength. Additionally, they isometrically strengthen all the muscles involved at the end of the range of motion (where we lose strength, first, as we age).

Pancake 'good mornings' (you can find a number of Youtube videos on these) are great for hamstring and adductor strength and flexibility as well as for the lower back.

Reverse Nordics (Youtube again) are a great way to stretch and strengthen the quads.

You'll be surprised what you can do with flexibility, even as a senior. You have to work at it, you have to be consistent, and you have to progress conservatively.

Get yourself an old Callaway Ely Would (28°). Some young fella bludgeons an 8iron onto the green on a 160yd. par 3, then, you float your high lofted "ladies club" inside him. On the green, you rob him of what's left of his self esteem with your quietly brilliant putting. Tell me that's not fun.😎

I'm 64 and I had a stroke 5 months ago so my golfing days are over. Yes it's a b**** getting old but if you take care your self (I haven't) you can minimize a lot of the problems that getting older brings.

I am older and had some issues too.  Chose not to let them determine my quality of life.  So I still play golf and go to the gym.  If I drop, so be it.

I would have continued playing too but it's impossible to play golf if 1. you're right handed and lose most of the function in that arm (I can't even hold a club) and 2. my balance transitioning from left to right has been affected quite a bit.

The only golf I can play is on the computer and even that is difficult trying to play left handed.

Yes, balance is a huge issue swinging a golf club.  I started with a purely rotational swing.

No weight shift.  Staying upright was a challenge those first few rounds a a hilly course.

Lost a ball because I was more concerned with staying upright than seeing where the ball went!

It wasn't until the end of the 2nd season that I added a little weight shift for more distance.

3rd season and now I can now make shots when my feet are in awkward locations!

Quite pleased with my improvement in ball striking and ability to grind through all sorts of shots.

Here is my latest getting old SUCKS! related item:

Yesterday was my birthday, planned on a nice afternoon of golf.   I have an older dog, I have to give her a pill before each meal, and have been doing it for a couple of years.  Anyway, yesterday morning I bent over to give he her pill, and BAM, out goes my back, I thought it was really bad, couldn't stand up for a couple of minutes.  Luckily it was feeling a bit better by the afternoon, but still spent my birthday sitting is a chair all day, and had to watch the disastrous US Ryder cup team play instead of playing myself....hopefully I can be back in action by next weekend...

I hear ya.

Recently rolled over in bed and somehow got a kink in my neck, lasted for three days.  🙄

Agree, The Ryder Cup loss again shows how out of touch youth is with the honor of putting it all on the line for one's country.  Europe knows it well.  Everyone at my house was a bit agitated on Sunday and erupted when Fowler gave that 3'+ winning putt.
