EVNROLL Putters

Recommended Posts

OK, Guys I have another putter question. I played 18 today with a few buddies and one of them has been playing the new EVN ROLL EV 5.1 in a DUO finish Silver / Black, we were talking about the new Spider Tour Proto, since another buddy plays a Spider Tour he bought earlier this year and he really likes it, although he uses a claw grip. LOL But talking putters during the round I couln't help but notice how much the EVN ROLL EV5.1 Looked like a Scotty Phantom x5.5 but my buddy loves it and has really improved his putting this yeat by sticking with it. So after I got home I looked up EVN ROLL and they make a model that looks very similar to the Spider ( EV12 ) I have not seen one in person and dont know anyone personally that has one so I thought Id turn to WRX.

My questions / thoughts are this: I like that they are machined, I like the sight lines and neck options, they even offer a few weight options on a few models and thenn some models have replacable or exchangable weights, all seem like great ideas' / options, after watching a few video's and reading the web site I'm considering giving one a try, I'm thinking I would like to try one in a wrist lock configuration because I played a Jailbird longer than my normal with a SS Wrist lock grip and really liked it. As I'm getting older and my putting stroke is not as good as I would like, wristlock or armlock seems like a viable option, and the higher moi putters certainly are more forgiving than my Toulon Austin blade.

Anyone have any experience with these mentioned putters, looking forward to your replies.

Thanks

Rich

Hmmm! I was thinking he ( buddy ) said a few used the new 5.1? Maybe he misspoke or I missunderstood him. I'm guessing the grooves are the culprit although they claim the ball rolls are more consistant, maybe consistantly slower / shorter? This could be a good thing if your a guy that blows the ball past the cup? LOL Sorry just trying to stay positve. The quality seems very good maybe if the face / grooves could be machined down or off I wonder if that would speed up the putter? Now you got me thinking!!! Hmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks @mktrout

@mktrout You may have just opened pandoras putter box. Think about this we might need to know putter speeds, smash factors, etc. LOL I'm kidding but not totally, becasue someone is going to come up ( or already has ) with a device or method of measuring putter ball speed and it could help those guys that do switch from putter to putter? Myself being a putter junky if there is a putter or device that keeps me from switching it might be a good thing, lord knows I've had way to many putters over the years.

I got the 5.2 after playing a ER2v for a season. I wanted the mallet and the interchangeable weights- and the duo is also really sharp. I’ve never had an issue with the “slower face” that some complain about. In fact as soon I switched to an Evnroll my lag putting improved- I came from a white hot and the milled face felt and sounded so much better than the Odyssey insert.
My first round with the 5.2 duo I had 12 putts on the front nine which is unreal for me- I average around 34 putts a round and I had 29 that day. I put the heaviest (34grams) weights in the 35 inch long shaft with the gravity grip, which is much heavier than the standard grip. The gravity grip feels great for me as a former tennis fanatic the shape reminds me of a continental forehand grip which allows me to feel where the face is during my stroke. The extra weight gave me a super stable putter that worked great inside of 6 feet- made everything at that distance.
I really think the face grooves work and the putter is one of the most forgiving designs out there. Good luck giving them a try.

You’ll need to learn to hit the ball harder. Evnroll putter are ungodly slow. Not good if you switch back and forth between a few putter, you’ll always be short. There’s a reason basically no pros use evnroll.

I’ve always been intrigued by Evnroll and really like the looks and feel of the EV5.1. mktrout - Have you actually played an Evnroll in a round or for multiple rounds to make this statement or just going off historical Evnroll posts on this forum?

Not trying to slam but just wondering.

Just bought a 5.2 and going to use it on Sunday - I like the alignment and weight - Can't wait to give it a run.

Have an EV2 Midlock being delivered on Saturday as an experiment. Not great timing with the weather being absolute crap for the foreseeable future. I've always been intrigued by it, and I was a little sketchy on the greens the past year so I'll give it a chance. If it doesn't feel right it's just another one that goes downstairs in the collection.

Thanks everyone for your input but starting out of the gate with mktrout's remarks I've simmered down on the EVNROLL for now, it's hard to commit with those thoughts in the back of your mind. With that being said we do have a group Putter Fitting coming up and I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a few evnroll's to see if I experience what some have described as being slow off the face.

Thanks again, really enjoy the forums and opporunity to ask these questions.

Please report back.  Eyeing an armlock as well

I took my son in for a fitting over the weekend...His current putter is my old SC Newport2 cut down to 32". While he has pretty good distance control on anything inside 20' he struggles with a left miss and his make percentage outside of 3' is poor...His coach recommended we try a putter change and since I had a $500 credit to Evnroll from the Uneekor Promotion in October I figured we didn't have anything to lose even though they have a premium price without much of a following/reputation.

He ended up fitting into the EV5.2 Duo as it seemed to help his alignment substantially .. as for the soft face it wasn't anything crazy, he was leaving things short at first but the distance dispersion was very good, we spent time with some of the different neck styles and such but he was pretty much rolling the 5.2duo head the entire time and by the end of the hour he'd had the distance pretty well dialed in...now if you change putters as frequently as you change socks then I could see it leading to some inconsistency issues, but if you're going to commit to gaming it for at least a season and spend any time on the practice green outside of warming up for your round I don't see it being a disadvantage

played my first 18 with an evnroll putter today.  The ER2.  My regular gamer is a Scotty Newport 2.  I definitely didn't find the ER2 to be "ungodly slow".  I'm going to keep it in the bag for a few weeks and see what I think.  Literally the first time I rolled it was on the first green today but I feel like if I practice with it a bit its going to be a better fit for me vs the scotty.  At first I really didn't like the sound but on one green we were waiting on a group in front of us so I pulled the scotty and by the end I got used to the sound.  Felt more confident with the Evnroll on long lag putts which is where I struggle the most with my scotty.  On the newport 2 on a long putt the difference between a center of the face hit and slightly off center can be dramatic which is where I'm hoping to get a bit more forgiveness. At first I found myself blasting it past the hole on long putts with the ER2 but once I got dialed in a bit it felt pretty good.  Too early to tell if it'll really help but I'm optimistic.  REALLY like the look of it and how it feels.  I also bought one of their fancy weighted grips that I'll put on it to see how that works..

I have now played 5 rounds with my EV2. I have no idea what people are talking about with the putter being "slow". I have found that the face allows me to putt through the ball (if that makes sense) and not try to steer it. It makes the speed of my putts a non-issue. I really loved it on faster greens because again, I don't have to worry about the speed.
