Back to tinkering my clubs... If I swap to lighter shafts, will swingweight be affected?

I'm currently gaming Mizuno 245 irons (4-GW) with Modus 120 S. These shafts weigh 114g in raw form. Mine are cut 1/4" short of standard. They were ordered in standard length from Mizuno, so my current swingweight with standard size grips is D2 for the 7 iron.

I actually want to re-shaft them (done DIY) with a set of Modus 105 stiff that I just picked up. These shafts are already cut to standard length for these irons but weigh 106.5g in raw form.

I have all of the tools to DIY the shaft switch, but I don't have a swingweight scale. My question is, if i switch the 120s for the 105s, will swingweight be affected?

Likely to swingweight lighter. Balance point information would be needed for each shaft to confirm. Check the pinned thread about swingweight in relationship to parts for more info.

All things being equal (rarely happens), but 9 grams of shaft weight equals about 1 SW.

Except for the fact that the rule about shaft weight is completely useless and even misleading most of the time.

Yes - all things are almost never equal.

In most cases, the (iron) shaft designers are aware of the effect of shaft weight on swing weight and will manipulate the balance point to compensate if possible. In some cases, there will be little to no change in swing weight despite the change in shaft weight - but not always. How well they do that is always a valid question.

SO the real answer is that - unless you have actual personal experience with that specific shaft change - you're not going to be much help the OP.

You may be better off without a swing weight scale. Adjust the clubs with lead tape until they "feel right." You could swap in tip weights but a lot of golfers don't bother with that.
