Cracked t100 iron

I picked up a new 7 iron to use in a dedicated range kit to take the heat off my gamers and in less than a month it’s already cracked. Mission accomplished I guess.

Did you buy the club new?  If so, Titleist should warranty it.

Looks like a scratch, not a crack.

Does not look like a crack and it would be incredibly unlikely to see a solid forged club crack like that.

 

Hollow irons crack all of the time but I’ve never seen a solid forged head crack.

This.  The t100/t150 is a forged club, buts it’s not a solid, 1 piece forging like 620 series.  These t series are multi-material, multi piece heads that essentially welded with seams.  The t150 also introduces polymer in the pocket cavity in the mid and longer irons.

I initially thought it was a scratch but on close inspection it’s quite jagged

Looking at these images from Titleist, it looks like it might be a crack where the back section is welded on, right at the weld line.

I play new T100, 3-PW.  

 

That's on the trailing portion of the club head, IMO not an impact stress point.  Doesn't look like a crack, more like a scratch.

You should be able to confirm with a magnifying glass. You can also wear a pair of magnifiers and look through a magnifying glass. I sometimes do this when im working on putters😁

It's just a bad weld. As the images of the iron show that back piece is welded on and smoothed out to make it look like one piece. Since the weld was probably bad to start, the repetitive shocks from impact just finally cause it to break in that location.

I finally got around to taking a better picture. I must admit where it starts towards the heel looks odd as it is wider like a gouge but as it turns and goes parallel with the sole the crack is evident. It’s hit about 1000 balls off the mats at the range and lived in a little practice bag with 5 other clubs.

Titleist should replace it under warranty.
