PXG Hybrids and Wedges - Your experience?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

To celebrate house of golf now stocking PXG, they're doing free fittings and I managed to snag a slot. Just wanted to see if anyone had anything of note to say about the wedges or hybrids (two areas of the bag I'm currently looking at). Considering swapping out the 4 iron for a hybrid - not sure if it's the right move and grateful to hear if anyone has done the same/any views.

Cheers.

I had a full PXG bag and started moving away from PXG.  Only the PXG 0211 22* hybrid from 2021 has stayed in the bag.  I swapped out PXG 2,3 hybrids with Apex UWs.

Had the 56* forged wedge and the SD 54,58 wedges.  They were good wedges but moved on to wedges with different bounce options.

Any particular reason your moved away? How do you find those UWs?

I've had a Gen 2 hybrid in the bag this year and its been amazing. Haven't hit any of the newer stuff but the hybrids have always been solid. And as for the wedge - its a solid piece of Chrome plated carbon steel - so the big differentiation will be if you like the shaping and the sole grind works for your game.

Thanks mate. Really keen to try those hybrids.

I’ve played Gen 2,3,4,5

Go on eBay and STEAL yourself a Gen 2 3 wood and hybrid. Possibly the best feeling club that’s ever been made for their price now. Performance is outstanding and consistent. They won’t be Taylormade titanium long but they have excellent forgiveness and consistent spin.

the sugar daddy wedges keep their grooves sharp and spin like crazy even after 200+ rounds. Verified by launch monitors still showing 10k spin on 60-80 yard shots.

I love PXG even though I don’t play them anymore. The irons are incredible if you need distance and forgiveness. I could bag the wedges, hybrids, and fairways tomorrow without issue also. Some of the best feeling clubs in the game.

Turf interaction on the irons here in Arizona. The P model couldn’t take a solid divot half the year here. Felt like it got stuck and bounced either causing high face shots with no spin or a groove low and not getting the distance/height I wanted.

The Gen 2 Hybrids are pretty darn good. Played them up until last year when I bought the Gen 6 Hybrids. They are even better, have the box look of the old Adams Hybrids and are just so forgiving and easy to hit.

And the Sugar Daddy II wedges are just the best out there by far !!!

Haven’t tried the wedges.  Have a couple of gen 3 hybrids.  They nice.  Nothing really super special.  But nothing wrong with them either.  You get out what you put in.

Disappointing. Was hoping to find out after all these years that I wasn't the issue.

Yeah love that boxy look. Can't wait to hit them!

The spin on those Sugar Daddy's really intrigues me.

The UW are hotter and longer than the hybrids and come out of the rough nicer. Moved away from pxg to new level and enjoying their irons and wedges now.

Nice one mate. UW's out of the rough is something that's definitely got me considering them.

Had the exact same experience.  Gen 2 Hybrid really sold me on PXG, was just an outstanding club.  Tried gen 3, gen 4, and gen 5, and the Gen 2 remained in the bag.  Finally I felt the Gen 6 (XF specifically, for me) was just as good.  I loaned the Gen 2 to a friend, who is now gaming it.  I damaged the Gen6 on a unseen rock in the rough, and went Black Ops, and it is better than the Gen6.  I also thought the Gen 2 was the best looking, until the Gen6 and B.O.

I agree as well. I've played Gen 2 since the release and still love it! Have not played any of the newer models as i am not a fan of the square toe design on hybrids.

I've also gamed Sugar Daddy 0311 wedges and loved it, but my only grief is that the face is so darn soft that everyone of the wedges i've used ended up with a deep gash on the faces...

I picked up a pair of Sugar Daddy wedges and really like them. They were crazy cheap ($65 each) but I would pay double for them now that I know. I got a 50 and 54 then had the 54 bent to 56.

Yeah, I got them as heads and already had shafts for them. Bending the 54 gave it a bit more bounce for better sand shots. Or that's the theory anyway.

I have the current 0211 22 degree hybrid and I love it. Easy to hit and it feels great. I am using the set wedges for the 0211 Xcor2. They work fine for me.
