Tiger and the F-bomb...

Trouble Tiger has that the cameras are on him alot more then most other players.

Atlanta Golfer, obviously you aren't a Tiger fan, but you can't call him a crybaby. He has extremely lofty goals that are attainable only by him, and he gets disappointed when he isn't playing well. If you really think that everyone else is just happy go lucky, you obviously don't watch that much golf. Every golfer gets pissed off, what is your suggestion for expressing displeasure if you cant pout, sulk, or have a facial expression of disgust?

 

 

I watch a lot of golf. Phil does some crazy things but at least when he just barely misses a great putt, he looks thrilled to have made a great shot, not mad because it didn't go in. Retief Goosen, Mike Weir, and plenty more Major winners all carry themselves with some class. How about the older greats such as Tom Watson or Gary Player. On the LPGA how about Anika. These are class acts whether they are winning or losing. Can you imagine these great players sulking around the course?

I have been to many a lecture where it has been discussed that by verbally venting your frustration increases your "recovery time" infinatley...

I was actually thinking to myself that the last few events I have watched Tiger there had been ALOT less "F-Bombs" than he did... He says "Oh Tiger" now where I used to hear "G-Dam it"

 

so maybe he is changing??? just not fast enough for some of you "Nuns" :good:

Well, it's one thing to have to explain it if you are out in a mall and some classless moron is walking around dropping F bombs without regard to anyone else. It's another thing completely if you're watching GOLF, of all sports, and tune in to hear Tiger Woods saying it weekly if he hits a poor shot. Lastly, why are there so many brainwashed Tiger fanatics here? Believe me, if Rory said it, all of you Tiger Lovers would be FREAKING OUT!

 

PS: I'm not a Tiger Hater or lover. I just think he's a great talent with a poor attitude on the course....

If all of the above mentioned golfers were on camera 99% of their rounds (every tournament), I bet you would hear a few F- bombs, C-Bombs, MF-Bombs, etc out of them too. Tiger is on camera by far more than any other golfer out there, that is why he is CAUGHT swearing more than anyone else (besides Freddy, haha).

Okay everyone lets face it... Yeah Tiger drops Fbombs when he is playing bad.... So does the majority of the PGA tour. The only reason this gets brought up is that it is Tiger and he get the majority of TV time. I can honestly say that almost all the PGA players swear after bad shots its just that Tiger gets caught.

If you beg to differ, next time a tourny comes your way, follow those players who are playing bad. You will hear plenty more than the Fbomb.

Get over it. People get frustrated when they play golf, and if they don't, then it shows they're just not involved. Just because it's Tiger doesn't mean it's different from anyone else. What would golf be without frustration?

While it is not necessary to swear, it is also not a big deal. In the end, they are just words.

 

If you think swearing is wrong, then don't do it. If you don't want you kids swearing, then try teaching them not to swear. That's your job as a parent, and what you signed up for when you had kids. I'm pretty sure Tiger et. al. didn't agree to parent your kiddos and in the end parents are still the biggest influence in a child's life.

 

Its called a teachable moment. When Tiger swears that is a perfect opportunity to discuss the issue of acceptable language with your children.

If you think that seeing Tiger swear is really a bad influence, why do you have the golf on at your house anyway. If it is that bad, it is your job as a parent to make the sacrifice and turn it off.

if you have never said the f-word while golfing, theres something wrong with you imo. even if its to yourself. we all get frustrated, his demand for perfect shots is there more than you think. i say it every round... sometimes loud, sometimes not, but itsonly human to let out your anger and frustration. at least he's not throwing clubs like hoffman...

I never recalled Jack swearing like that...it was pretty funny when he would belt out a "ggod gracias"...I'd be curious if Jack, Arnie or any of the old timers have discussed Tiger's occassional F Bomb with him.

 

Tiger will probably tone the language down since the birth of his daughter. I have 5 kids, the youngest being 2 1/2. My youngest picks up everything and repeats everything...believe me I found out the hard way...I don't think Tiger wants little Sam running around and saying the F Bomb...

 

I think Tiger can quit swearing if he prefers, and my guess is he will because he's now a dad. I think it would be a simple fix for the guy that is in total control on the course....ME personally, I could care less what any pro athlete or common person carries him or herself. The only thing that is important is how I carry myself...I spend the most time with my kids, therefore I will have the biggest influence on my kids. I can't control how another behaves...nor am I anyones judge.

There is an interesting article in the this months Golf Magazine about how Tiger's focus was during the match play match vs. JB Holmes. they had to &%#$@# out a lot of the lanuage Tiger was spewing during the round while getting himself focused. I personally have been know to do the same thing while playing with select friends. However, it would be nice if he could tone it down so most of the children in the gallery could not hear. JMO.

Do keep in mind that when the "Old Timers" played they were only on camera for one or two holes for much of their careers and it was a big deal when they reached those holes. Now, cameras actually follow Tiger around to be sure his every move is on camera.

I assume Tiger's language at home is quite different than on the course in the heat of competition. I could be wrong since I don't know the man personally.

We are talking about the greatest golfer who has ever lived, he has given back more than can be counted to golf and the world. He has a work ethic that we can only hope our children will learn to emulate. He is just about as close as you can get to the perfect human being.

 

When he curses it is because he miss-executed a shot, a shot that will help him obtain his goal of winning a major or another important tournament. he also knows exactly what he did wrong, how the face was lined up at impact, angle, lie and probably the exact amount of pressure that should be applied to the ball.

 

When I curse there's probably a 50%/50% I know what went wrong in general.

 

He plays with such intensity and with so much on the line, how would you have him react? "Oh pussyfeathers!!" "sugar!!!" I don't think so. They're just words. The only power they have is the power they are given.
