I have to cast another vote for the Top Flite Strata TL Tour. For me this ball seems to fit right between the Pro V1 and the Pro V1X. It is sufficiently long, and the spin around the greens is simply top notch. In addition, it does not feel as "soft" off the putter as the Pro V1, and yet not as "hard" as the Pro V1X or HX Tour. The TL Tour gives me a nice, penetrating trajectory (I grew up in Texas and now play a lot of golf along the coast of South Carolina, so my tendency is towards a lower ball flight).

 

One possible reason why this tour quality ball gets little attention is because Top Flite is now owned by Callaway, whose "tour ball marketing dollars" are heavily tilted towards the HX series, what with their most popular endorser, Philly Mick, identified so strongly with the HX. In contrast, Hank Kuehne (who last year played the TL Tour) has not had the success necessary to give the TL Tour much "air time."

 

For the those who care, my handicap index is currently 2.2

And for the those who love to save money, the TL Tour can be had for less than $25/dozen (shipped) at the world's largest online flea-market. (And no, I'm not a seller there).

For me, it depends on the weather. For normal to cool conditions, then I play ProV's (Liked the old ProVX's better) and for hot weather, I play Black Max's.

I have never been much of a PRO V1 fan. I have been playing with Titleist DT SoLo's and Pinnacle Exceptions, which are REAL long off the tee. I never have any problems getting these to stop quickly off of wedge shots into greens.

 

Best part is, they are relatively CHEAP!

Titleist Pro V1 ,

I have tried some of the other offerings but I always end up coming back to the Pro V1

I played the Wilson TX4 the majority of last year and really liked it. Not quite the longest, but great spin and good durability @ $30 (my magic number). I like the NXT tour, but it scuffs. Same with the AD333. I love hitting it, but every time I get to the green I see I'm going to need a new ball on the next tee. I love the feel of the cover, but maybe the least durable ball I've ever tried. I'm going to give this year's new version a try.

 

Bought a dozen Bridgestone e5 for my trip to Texas over the summer. LOVED them. Great soft feel, they check well (even thought it's 2 piece) and I didn't loose any distance. The urethane cover held up well. Very, very nice.

 

At the golf show this weekend I bought 2 dozen Black Max for $16 a dozen. I'm excited to play those this year from the reviews they've gotten.

Srixon Z-URS is it for me. AD-333 is a good ball for the price. :) Srixon has great balls for all golfers. You can't go wrong.

I played Srixon AD333 balls almost exclusively last year. Loved the performance across all aspects of my game, but they tend to cut up with the wedges and scuff pretty easily. Tried Nike Mojo 2 on a whim, and found a ball that's slightly longer and a tad straighter than the Srixon, but has a firmer feel and doesn't stop as quickly. I tend not to putt as well with this ball too. However, I'm consistently hitting my longest drives with it, so now I'm torn on what to buy next.

Passed through Target last week and picked up a dozen U-Tri Tours for $27. Played 18 the next day, and was extremely pleased with the performance of this ball. Lost no more than 5-10 yards off the driver max. (when compared to the Mojo 2), but gave myself 5 or 6 more chances at birdie by being able to hit it close and keep it there. Also, the feel when chipping was superb. PLus, feel and roll with the short stick was very good....and predictable. I think I've found the best ball/price point for my game!

 

Went down to Myrtle Beach today, and called in at a Target down there to find the last box of U-Tri Tours on clearance for $15. Wow! Drove over to one of the golf superstores to check their prices, but they didn't stock this ball. Is the U-Tri Tour not a popular ball, or are Precept phasing it out in favour of something else? (I hope not).

 

Your help would be appreciated, as I need to start stocking up on the U-Tri, or looking for a replacement. BTW....what is a good replacement?

ProV1X is my choice. Great length and spin for my 115 SS. Also play NXT Tour on occasion.

Personally, I play pretty much any top of the line ball that gives me a good amount of spinnage. Like Pro V1, Pro V1x, One Gold/Black (platinums release 2 much 4 me), HX Tour/HX Tour 56, Apex Tour Red/Black, Tour Deep, and Srixon Z-URS. Pro V1's and Pro V1x's are my favorites though. I'm a Titleist Ho- :)

 

Wilson PX3's and TX4's are nice but they scuff real easily.

Last summer I used Precept Laddie Extreme and pwrdrive. Liked them both with a slight nod to the pwrdrive.

I use the Callaway HX TOUR 56. It is long, soft and great in all conditions.
