As always tour presence sells! With Poulter, Villegas, and others Cobra will have a good year in retail sales. Mark my word, the "young-cool-approach" will work for Cobra.

That no doubt helped! I'd like to see some really up close pictures of his blades. I'm sure they're a blade with "Cobra" stamped on them. Kinda like when Greg Norman played "Cobra" but they were JNP's with "Cobra" stamped on them. At least that's what I heard so take it FWIW. Simp

Maybe he now gains access to Titleist/Scotty facilities and their toys-Not that TM is worse.

I think TM is much better if you look at it from an all-around activities perspective.

TM is under the umbrella of a conglomerate that holds many outdoor activity manufacturers-He could get great Skis, shoes, etc.!!

What a dillema-I wish I had that worry!! :)

I can think that there are millions of reasons that poulter made the swich to cobra $$$$$$$

Exactly $$$$$$$$$$ is the only reason people change IMO

Perhaps as Cobra is an Acushnet company and also are titleist then they might be titleist blades with cobra stamping. What would be the point of cobra producing blades when a sister company produces them and has also of experience producing them. Also Cobra is marketed at mid to high handicapper so why would they change that to compete with titleist producing players clubs??

Just a thought anyway feel free to shoot me down :)

When Norman started endorsing MacGregor, he mentioned that he had actually been playing the iron for years. MacGregors stamped as Cobra. Could be some of the same. That being said, the Cobra CB forged is a good iron. After being ground to a tour player's preference I think that they would be as good as a lot of other irons out on tour.

you guys are actually on the right track ref: the blades w/ Macgregor connection: the particular blades Poulter is using came from a mold originaly done by Don White of Mac for Greg Norman that was kept in the forging history. Similar to the Cobra Greg Norman signature tour stamp blades and were forged by the same foundry that does most of Titleist's tour forgings. Info from inside source at Mac that i was having a discussion w/ ref: similarity of Baddely's blades to above named Norman tour stamps. Hope this info. helps!

Very interesting since several shop owners I know met with Barry S. the owner of MacGregor and he told them they would NEVER do a forging and restamp it for another manufacturer like they did in the Norman Cobra days. I sure can't see what MacGregor would be doing even selling/leasing/loaning their design to Achusnet-----seems pretty stupid but maybe Barry needs the $$$$$$. But those were also the days when MacGregor was getting their stuff done here at Chicago Forge or Hoffman. Only the occasional cavity back forging like the PCB Tour came from Miura.

Now everyone virtually goes to Endo (70+% of the worlds forgings) which has facilities in Thailand, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Mexico. Every OEM designer starts with his design and then Endo goes to their existing designs (that have dies) to see what matches and makes the OEM's specific changes. So other than design most manufacturers receive finished heads. When Titleist first went with Endo, Endo would only sell them finished heads. Part of this reason was because Titleist butchered the chrome jobs on the first 681s and tried to blame it on Hoffman. In reality it was a bad plater Titleist picked in CA. Endo wasn't about to get burned in the same way, so finished heads only for the first few years. Endo may have softened lately particularly since they got Titleist to bite on forged stainless clubs :)

Wow..Since Poulter is now with Cobra I'm going to an all Cobra bag..not!!!

Cobra the biggest disappointment in OEM products w/out a doubt..

Maybe a disappointment for you but certainly not golfers or Achusnet. Check the sales for Cobra basically without any tour presence---must be through demos I guess. Check your local dealership and Cobra drivers are right up there with Cleveland and Callaway for sales. XX Speed is among the longest out today and the Cobra forged cavity back remains one of the softest feeling secrets on the market--done by Endo as are all the Titleist forgings.

Sorry to disagree, but I do. I dont play Cobra and they do have a perception problem, however they are loaded with solid clubs. Drivers and the forged irons are solid. All day solid. :)

the Cobra brand of Acushnet targets ALL types of players whereas Titleist might only target 15% of the market share... Cobra clubs sell more than any other in my shop and have for the past couple years simply because they target every golfer... this has all been w/o tour presence other than Zuback and Feherty... I'm excited for Cobra!

Quote from the commentators on Sky Sports today.

" All clubs are new " the only ones from his old bag are his wedges and his putter.

Looks like he's using the Odyssey and not a Cameron.... :)

not trying to dispute what Sandy said as is absolutely correct about current statements by Barry S., back in the Norman days, Cobra came to a liscensing agreement w/ Mac to purchase the particular molds tweaked by Don White, hence these particular molds were available for usage of creation of "new" blades.
