I really like the Prov1x, but I am hearing good reviews on the TP red. Comparisions are appreciated, also could you please give swing speed and that info please....

This has been talked about a million times in a million threads it all comes down to what you want.

Ball flight: TP Red

Distance: Push

Spin on short irons: Push

Feel off putter: Push

Spin around greens and touch factor: X kills it.

Thats pretty much how I see it. If you feel that the X spins around the greens too much which i would have a hard time understanding its a great fit.

My SS is 120

Well I went out and tried both side by side, I will say that I do prefer the Prov1x over the TP Red, thanks for your reply

Different strokes for different folks!

SS 104

Ball flight: Red

Distance: Red

Short iron spin : Red (I feel the Red spins less and that's what I need)

Feel off putter: Red

Spin around the greens/touch: V1x (by a hair)

So for me the Red is about perfect, and I played the V1x for a couple years before switching this year.

The ball flight off the driver is not a huge advantage. The distance is negligible if your getting more yardage from the TM it is between your ears. You might be getting 5 yards more max. Short iron spin? You rip back 9 irons!?!? Feel off the putter once again they are similar so we are left with spin around the greens and touch which if you ask anyone who plays top level golf that is the single most important facet of a golf ball. Pro V1x crushses it.

Swing speed is the key when comparing these 2 balls.

They are virtually identical ... however ... with my 92 mph Driver swing speed, I have found that when I mishit the V1x ... it does not compress (at all) and I am penalized harshly in distance. The TP Red will take a mishit and still give you 90% performance. What a concept, a forgiving golf ball. Again, New TP Red with LDP and current Pro V1x are virtually identical ... in all aspects... swing speed is the key. I can honestly say that as a 92-95 driver swinger, the TP Red LDP is the perfect ball for me.

You may be correct that it has a gear effect for those with slower swingspeeds however the balls are not nearly identical. I have a shag bag full of X's and I had a sleeve of Reds that i just threw in. I was hitting 25 yard little pitch shots with a lob wedge that over time I have found out how to manipulate the shot into skidding and stopping. I can do it every time. When I get to a red instead of stopping it rolls out. On almost all chips! Even little pitches and flops around the green I can see the X spinning in the air and the red does not. If you do not value spin around the green or if you would like to have the ball roll out more this is a good option. I for one need all the check I can get.

I used the TP Red for the first time yesterday and found that it had crazy amounts of spin to me! Normally play the regular ProV1 and thought that this would cut down on the spin. Off the driver, it had A LOT more side spin than the V1. Was backing up iron shots all day. Had a PW back up off the green which really pissed me off. Noticed a decrease in yardage as well on all clubs. I'm going back to the ProV1. I guess I'll just throw the two unused ones in the shag bag. Oh, and the irons that caused all the spin were 12 year old Ping ISI's. I know that most everyone that has tried them like them a lot, but not me.

I have a very steep and handsy swing, so the answer is yes, I do rip back 9 irons and 8 irons as well, not to mention the mess I make with wedges. I am not at the skill level where I can control all the spin I get, therefore I like the Red because it does it for me!

I to found that it lacks a bit of spin around the greens after switching from the V1x. But as you mentioned, I to practice a lot of low short wedges into greens and have found I can stop the Red just where I want it! I actually find the Red more predictable for me and it allows me to be more aggressive, and that my friend is a very good thing for me!

Please don't take my opinion as a dig the the V1x, it is an amazing ball and if the Red didn't exist I would be back to the V1x in a second. Remember, I played it for years before switching. But for MY GAME the Red is better suited.

Seems like more and more people are coming up with steep swings. Just too hard to control the distance. Not knocking it just an observation of a lot of younger people I play with.

Both superb balls, can't really fault them. Best wind ball is easily the Taylormade Red, both have the same distance for me but probably hit the red slightly lower. On the greens is where it matters and for me the Pro V1x wins in this department for spin and for putting. But as mentioned both balls are excellent would play any of them and be happy

Prov1x all day long. Titleist makes the best golf balls on the market that's why they're #1.

Titeist is the #1 ball, but they are not a perfect fit for everyone.

TaylorMade is the #1 driver on tour, but they are not perfect for everyone.

FootJoy is the #1 glove on tour, but they are not perfect for everyone.

True Temper is the #1 metal shaft on tour, but they are not perfect for everyone.

Do you get it yet....?

The Red definitely doesn't spin like the V1X around the greens, the TP Black spin characteristics are more closely matched to the V1X.

I have mentioned this in a couple of other threads. I have found that the Black LDP spins like a V1x and the Red LDP is different than anything Titleist makes (much less spin off short irons than V1 or V1x). In the same regard, TaylorMade doesn't have an answer for the spin characteristics of the V1. Just my 2 cents...
