What's Your Favorite Mallet?

For Under 2-Bills?

There are a ton of great high-end mallets [scotty, Gauge, Byron, Mills, etc.], but I'd like to know what's your favorite design under $200.

Walk into a store and buy it off the shelf wise...the Ping G2i Craz-e, but they don't make it anymore in that model.

 

Cameron Red X5 would be my other choice even though it doesn't fall in this category for a store purchase, it can easily be had for under 2 bills elsewhere.

Although I don't know what category it falls in, the Sabertooth just works. It's as ugly as a red-headed stepchild, but gets the ball in the hole. Rossa Monte Carlo looks good too (honorable mention).

not a big fan of the mallets, but if I were to game one it would be the Oddessy Marxman, that thing is so easy to line up.

Hahahaha that beast was from another thread someone found the monstrosity on ebay, then a fellow WRXer bought it in an attempt to bring it back to life.

I just picked up a Mizuno Bettinardi BC3 for under two bills. FIT face and carbon steel combines for nice soft but positive feel on fast greens. Putter naturally sets up square. Only thing, I had to get a new grip. Winn grips absorbs too much feel and was way too small for my meat hooks. For now I've got an old school pebble grip on it and will probably have an Iomic when I get my hands on one.

 

So far, it's been a great acquisition.

I have a mallet coming soon, and without stamping would be right at 200.00 shipped with either a plumber's neck slant neck or center shafted. The only other I have ever really had in my bag for a long time is the redX with the plumbers neck

Stopped being made in 2006, but still the best roller of a ball out there. One of only 2 putters that gave positive overspin in independent tests !!

 

Broke mine last week and managed to get a v good used one on ebay for £45.

I tried someone's Suzuka for a few putts about 3 years ago and it was terrific. I'll second that choice. If I remember correctly it was smaller, like a half-mallet or neo mallet.

Yes, thats the baby. Half mallet with 2 weights under the sole.

 

I switched from Odyssey after this article in the Golf Monthly examined all the putters around on the 'day'. What was interesting was that the YES range of putters didnt give the top spin that was claimed and that many Odyssey putters actually gave backspin (negative roll).

 

If memory serves, the AGSI lines in the face of the Suzuka face gave the most spin and the next was a NIKE Black OX. Other than that most were not rolling the ball at all!

I think the Mizuno/Bettinardi #3 can be found for under two bills. That is about as drool-worthy as a mass-produced putter gets in my opinion... Bob Bettinardi takes the QC of those putters just as seriously as the one-offs!
