Kansas.com had story on the Cottonwood Hills in the sun paper and online. Looking for investors would like to open this year but looking at next with a housing development.

this place won't open for a good long while - the inlaws live there and i drive by it frequently. it's currently a big cow pasture. i just don't know who thought that this place could compete with the dunes right down the road.

Neither Hutch nor Buhler wanted to run water lines. Therefore, no houses being built... At least thats what I heard... It was a great course...

Heard rumors lately of a company entertaining buying it. The same company that bought the Elks in Salina, KS.

Neither Hutch nor Buhler wanted to run water lines. Therefore, no houses being built... At least thats what I heard... It was a great course...

my inlaws live on the dunes right down the road, they told me that they never actually sold a lot.....i don't know which came first the chicken or the egg. i know that lots were for sale (fire sale actually), and in a moment of weakness i entertained the idea of buying one. i never had the chance to play the place, i always opted to play PD instead when in town. wish i would have at least once though.

Not to mention the Highlands is right down the road as well, while not Prairie Dunes a quality dunes style course none-the-less.

Fantastic course. Really difficult IMO. I play off a 4 index and never broke 88 at Cottonwood from the tips. I think it was 77/149 rating and 7200.

It was in my top 3 courses (that I've played) in Kansas. I miss that place.

forgot to update this thread....

i drove by here over thanksgiving and noticed some greens that look like they were being taken care of again. i asked the inlaws about it and apparantly there is some new ownership that is planning on reopening the course....not sure on timing though.

I've heard the same thing from my dad. They have been watering the course and mowing the greens and tee boxes. I think there are plans to reopen this spring under new ownership.

Please keep this thread updated. I've been waiting for this place to reopen so I can make the trip from oklahoma city. Always wanted to play it. is prairie dunes private? Can I get on somehow? Would love to make a weekend of these 2 courses

Prairie Dunes is private, but it isn't that difficult to get onto. If you are a member at a club, have your pro give the Dunes a call, and they can book you a tee time. If you play Prairie Dunes, make sure to stop for a drink in the card room afterward. You will meet a lot of interesting guys.

drove by about a week ago....sign still says it will reopen in 2015.

Spring of 2015 for opening have not heard exact date. On there facebook page they have pics of the work they have done. They could have opened this fall but wanted to wait to make sure the course was in great shape for reopening.

drove by yesterday and saw the irrigation going....so things at least from the outside seem to be on track.

May 1st it will reopen. I played it on Nov. 8 the fairways and greens were in great shape. They had just overseeded the rough and driving range. No clubhouse yet they are in the process of bidding this work and the cart barn. Matt Seitz is going to be the pro. The still have to remove small tree stumps from some of the bunkers.

Course looks great from the pics they've been posting on FB. My wife's uncle lives in Hutchinson, so I'm thinking it might be time to go visit them in May and try to play both Cottonwood and Prairie Dunes. It would be like a mini golf trip for me coming from KC.
