Titleist 907 D2 vs. 909 D2

For those that have played both drivers is there an appreciable difference between the two? Cosmeticly they look pretty much the same. If the differences are small I don't see the need to change from my 907. Input is appreciated!

actually, i think the 907d2 looks like the 909 d3 except the 907 has a bigger head.

I've hit both. the biggest difference I noticed between the 907 d2 and 909 D2 was the sound of the 909. The 909 gives you a loud crack sound when hit on the screws... Thats about it. I hit both on the launch monitor and hit my 907 d2 further w/ better launch conditions than the 909. I'm not overly dissapointed since it saved me $350-400.

I liked the 907 D2, just wanted to reduse my spin and get more forgiveness, thus the 909 D2. Pulled the shaft from the 07 an installed it in the 09. There is a different feel, I think it is less metallic, but that is subjective. Can't really speak to the differences in length as I never played the 909 in temps above the mid 40's. The big difference to me was forgiveness, and to me it was a big difference. The 909 just seemed to want to go straight. Slight misses either way were moderate.

Traded my 907 d2 with v2 reg shaft for the 909 d2 with Diamana reg shaft. Newer has to be better, right?? Lost at least 10 yds, probably 15, in the process, plus accuracy is not as good. Going in today to try to trade back.

Keep the 909 D2 but switch out the shaft, the diamana in my opinion is too weak and spins way to much. I got the 909D2 with the stock voodoo and it was terrible until I swap it with a Fubuki and it was night and day. The best combo for me so far and I use to play the 905R. The D2 beats the 905R with accuracy and distance about 10 yards.

Personally I think the two D2's look nothing alike. The 909D2 looks much more like the Cobra Speed Pro S. The D2's are totally different drivers, you may hit the new D2 much better or not...you'd have to demo, just becasue you hit the 907 D2 well doesn't mean the 909 D2 will be good for you. Personally I find it strange that Titleist called it the D2 when it's a brandnew design.

I found the 909D2/9.5 Stiff with Diamana that I demoed really difficult to hit compared to my 907D2/9.5 Stiff with VS Proto. Seemed to loose a lot of length and I could not square the club at impact for the life of me causing big slices. The club also felt really heavy compared to the 907 and I was not getting the usual height. I am sure that the Diamana is the wrong shaft with me and I was going to go with the Voodoo but was unable to demo that combination. Since the testing with the Diamana went so bad I am now reconsidering if a change is needed at all especially as I probably can't get to demo other combinations. I would be interested to know how the 909D2 goes with the VS Proto but from reading the Titleist PR I am probably now learning more towards the D-COMP. Hopefully I will get to try it as a little more length and forgiveness on miss hits over the 907D2 would be desirable.

anyone else with any feedback towards this topic? i am also really interested in this. i plan on buying either the 907 d2 w the diamana or the 909 d2 with a diamana.

btw, i currently have a 907 d2 as a loaner from a friend and it has a DVS stiff shaft in it. i feel like i can hit this club a lot longer a straighter. any ideas?

thanks!!

My 907 D2 with the V2 counterbalance is the best driver I've ever owned.

I did hit the 909 at a demo day event, and they obviously didn't have that counterbalance shaft, I hit it with the Voodoo and thought it was terrible, but I hit it with a Diamana and thought it was ok, not as good a "sound" as my 907....I prefer a more muted sound to a big RING.....

You think the 907 is QUIETER than the 909? There's a first.........

Get fit. That's the best advice. Why buy either with the Diamana if either one doesn't fit. Just wondering why people try stuff in on new stuff that they haven't hit before, or have been fitted before. I had the 907D2/V2 76 combo and enjoyed it. Got fit for the Sumo 2 Tour and it was unreal. More forgiving, less spin. I've hit the 909D2 and D3, and liked both, but they didn't perform better for me than the Sumo 2 Tour, nor my 09 Burner TP. The 909D2 does sound better, to me, than the 907D2, and it appears to be more forgiving. But it's not like the 907D2 isn't forgiving.. because it certainly is.

Complet different ! I switched from the 905R to the 907D2 and that was a big mistake. Now with the 909D2 i`m very happy. very straight, longer than the 907D2 and i`ts a very forgiving Driver.
Setup is also much better than the 907. For a smooth swinger like me the Diamana shaft is perfect.

Well I played a 907D2 with the V2 stiff in it 2 years ago and I really couldn't hit a fairway to save my life. Last year I purchased the D3 (and got fit for the Diamana red board) and absolutely love it. I agree with the above poster who said to get fit, you have to get fit today with all of the different shaft options and stuff. One other difference is the sound of the club. To me, the 909's have it all over the 907's in the sound department.

I may be in minority, but I love the 907D2. I have the stock stiff Diamana, my ss is 110-115, and the Diamana handles it pretty well. It is as long as any other driver that I have hit, and its been a lot. I love the looks, feel, and the accuracy of the 907d2.

Like everyone has said on here, get fit, every swing is so different. I went thru numerous drivers and was reluctant because of the bad press the 907D2 got, but I got it for $125 in the bargain bin, brand new, tried it, and for me it works.

love the look of the 909D2 in my local shop - really like the face height; not a big fan of deep faces. since the 907's could be had relatively cheap these days - anyone know if the 907D2 face height is the same as the 909D2?

Well sorry bro but nobody will reply to this thread because its a little old now. 907's are forgotten and the 909's are on the way out with all the 910 talks abound. There were some design flaws with the 907 unfortunatly, IMO it was the sexiest 460cc driver ever built but looks alone won't cut it. Titleist tried to borrow technology from its Cobra brethren with the milled rhombus but only made a face that tapered at the top near the crown and got gradually thicker towards the sole. A face that tapers from thicker in the center to thin at the edges works very well (Cobra drivers, 909 series and TMAG inverted cone face) but the half a$$ effort with the 907 face made for a very high launch and extremely high spin.

I think the 909 D2's have a larger profile, longer heel to toe and a slightly shallower face than the 907 FWIW.
