Not my favorite course, actually i really hate the course, but Alpine CC in NJ is an F****N B****H...not long at all maybe 6800, but i am convinced Tillinghast was drunk when he created the course, because it is impossible to make putts on that golf course...every green is unfairly sloping and being above the hole, you'll be happy with a two putt....now i know courses such as Kiawah and Pine Valley are incredibly hard, but atleast they are fair and beautiful courses...this course is unfair, boring, you'd have to pay me to play it
he was when he created the 18th hole he couldnt figure out where to put it and after a long night and a bit of hard liquor it was created.

The Ranch in San Jose Calif area. 150 slope from the tips and touted as the toughest course in No. Calif. Target golf at its finest. People lose golf balls here like you wouldn't believe. I know a member who has probably picked up over 1000 golf balls over the last few years on the course looking for his own ball. :D

Sky and Shadow Course at Lost Canyons in Simi Valley. Pete Dye is a $##%!!!!#%%!!!!@@!!!. :D

I've played Alpine a number of times and you're correct, it's a b*tch of the highest order. I've also learned not to play members there for any real money because they have a huge advantage on those tricked up greens. The course itself is beautiful as is the new clubhouse, but holes like number 10 par 3 play straight up a small mountain that looks like something that you would ski off of not play golf on.

I've never had so many decent shots hit the green and then spin back into the fairway some 10-20 yards. There's hard and then there's rediculous and unfair.

Lost Canyons Golf Course in Simi Valley, CA. The Sky course is close to 7300 from the blacks with a rating of 76 and a slope of 155. Even more is the wind that can reach 40 mph, since the course is between the Santa Susana mountains. It's either hit the target or go in the hazard. Definitely my favorite course with the best views one of the toughest courses in California.

Oakmont is the hardest setup I have ever played, but when I played it was soft from rain the night before and the wind was calm.

Kiawah Island Ocean course was the hardest based 20-25 mph north to south prevailing wind which makes the last 5 holes extremely difficult as they are dead into the wind.

Hah! These are the same exact toughest courses that I was going to post!

I've played Oakmont enough to figure out a few of its tricks (not like that even helps), but Kiawah is just an absolute bear! The one time I played there, the wind was HOWLING! It felt like it was playing 8,000 yards!

Hands down, Bandon Dunes. Take your current handicap and add 10-12 strokes...EASILY!!
Bandon Dunes was tough, especially with a howling wind, but I thought Old MacDonald was the toughest of the 4 course rotation. Greens so fast and massive that you're lucky to 2 putt each hole.

Not as crazy as some of you guys but my local course is pretty hard. The Rawls Course. It plays 7323 and 75.3/139. Rolling hills with native grass instead of rough after the first cut. Miss the fairway and you're looking at bogey at best. Has a killer 621 par 5 17th with a bunker complex at around 450~ forcing you to carry it with your second shot or lay up and hit a 200~ yard shot into the green for GIR. It kills good scores in the making.

Firestone South from the tips 3wks before the tourney, LONG and brutal rough EVERYWHERE. Another would be Princeville, with the trade winds and crazy elevation changes in and out of the rain forest tough as nails to keep the ball in play...BB
