toughest course you've played

Franklin Hills in Franklin, MI. It's Oakland Hills sister course basically. Greens are pretty severe. Rough is thick and knotty. Course is firm and fast. Soft soft sand to where it can easily plug. If you miss in the wrong tiers on the green your in trouble. I had a high school match there and it was not set up easy.

Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace Maryland. Classic example of Pete Dye wanting to make golfers cry. Played it in the spring in a tournament and play 7126, in sleet for about 40 minutes it was that cold. I holed a 50 footer on the last to shoot 79 and the low score for the day was 77.

Bethpage Black...... and to help it play tougher, it was about 100*F and humid but my second toughest would have to be The "K" Club in Ireland.

I played Bethpage Black in 2002 shortly after the US Open ... To say the rough was thick was an understatement. I did birdie 4 and 5 and then 12 which felt REALLY good

The Bull in sheboygan WI. I have also played both courses at Whistling straits (straights, 2010 PGA Champ, i think thats the year) and the one at Blackwolf run ( womens us open) and the bull is all within 15 min of these courses. And The Bull at 90$ compared to WS 400$ is 10x tougher than any of those tough courses and about same quality. At 7450 yards it could kill anyone.

The Prince at Princeville HI, love to hate that course. It's lost some of it's shine do to poor upkeep over the years. I wonder if some of the HI guys feel this way also.

Wolf Creek in Mesquite, if it's windy forgetabout it, calm to light wind great course.

I had to laugh at Robinson Ranch f'n courses are so unfair, barranca on both sides of narrow fairways that roll a long way and shots that are right side or left side bounce into trouble more times than not.

PGA West Stadium tournament set up.

Industry Hills old layout.

"kevinhoran9" Old Industry Hills Ike, I try to explain to people the difference of new verses the old but they just don't see how it could be that much harder then now. Then I tell them the old course record was 71 not a great score and the record holder was FRED COUPLES and he held that record till 2003,nough said. The LPGA listened to their players and left because it was to hard.

I was actually coming to post The Prince at Princeville HI, I played there a couple times and loved it even though I scored in the triple digits due to the trade winds.

Ele ele (Black) - 7,378 yards 76.2 / 140 Wai Kula (Gold) - 7,040 yards 75.0 / 133 Polu (Blue) - 6,567 yards 73.0 / 130 Ke oke o (White) - 6,122 yards 70.3 / 128 77.1 / 139 Ula ula (Red) - 5,402 yards 66.7 / 119 72.8 / 124

I played the golds and it ate me alive.

Often gets overlooked cuz Blackwolf and Whistling Straits are right dowm the road but The Bull at Pinehurst Farms is IMO the hardest course in WI. 7354 yards with a rating of 76.3. You can lose it so fast out there you dont even know what happened. O and it was a bull farm named Pinehurst Farms before the other Pinehurst was founded in NC.

I've played Kiawah Ocean and Bethpage Black 10+ times each and while Bethpage is consistently brutal you can catch Kiawah on a calm day and its actually... enjoyable. When the winds are up though, all you see coming up 18 are the adirondack chairs behind the green where you'll know a double scotch and a cigar await.

One course thats also on the water and an absolute bear is Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, FL. Play it from the tips in the wind and its just as tough as the above mentioned. I actually love the layout.

Had to laugh at the comments above about Alpine CC. I played it years ago with a member just the one time and I had taken off a lot of time before playing it and was rusty. I absolutely striped it that day but the greens had me infuriated. I think I hit 13 greens and shot 79 if I recall. Couldn't figure out if it was just me...this was comforting to read.

Sawgrass not easy, Blackwolf Run River from tips (I broke 80!), Creeks @ Beechwood in N. TX before redesigned as was too hard for most, Tobacco Road, PGA West back in the early 1990s.

10 or so years ago I played Old Memorial, a private course in Tampa built by the founders of Outback Steakhouse and a number of other well-connected entrepreneurs. The nameplates in the locker room contained a few Rays/Lightning/Buccaneer players.

The rough was no joke. I bombed one drive but wound up less than a foot off the fairway. Took me 3 to get back on the fairway. All I could do was laugh...
