Paul Lawrie. if there were ever a title for "worst player to win a major" he'd be a contender and probably winner if you went back only 10 years

 

 

He and Shawn Micheel would have to have some sort of chip off for that title. Ben Curtis left them in the dust a few years back.

 

Paul Lawrie won 4 other European Tour events as well as his Open win. That blows Micheel into the weeds. His next best result is a Nationwide Tour win.

You are entirely correct. Lawrie certainly did drop off after 2002 or so though. Micheel was really a fluke winner.

Both Michael Campbell and Shaun Micheel got bit by the injury bug. Micheel more than once too and he had some strange condition where his body did not produce enough testosterone (or maybe too much) and he was fatigued all the time. He got it straightened out and played well a few years ago but then got hit again. Campbell won the 2005 US Open at Pinehurst and then I know he struggled with some injuries. Steve Jones won the 96 US Open and then had some strange injuries too.

Notah Begay III just put up a 31 at the Byron Nelson. He is one of my favorite golfers. Has he had problems with injuries? I really expected to see him more after he won the St. Jude and Greater Hartford in 2000, but he just dropped off the map. Anyway, I hope he finishes up strong today! Go Notah!!!!

Can't swear to this, but my memory is that Jodie made enough $ and went home. Believe I read he got a divorce, but not certain of this. Jodie was some kind of good. I remember in 1975 sitting in the dorms at Morehead St Univ in Kent listening to his older brother Eddie (himself a Publinks winner and heck of a swinger) saying that his little brother was going to be a great player and he was right. I think Jodie is living in Kentucky.

Someone posted Joey Snyder III. Hadn't thought of him in ages. Does anyone have any idea what became of him? He could have gone into missionary work. That brings me to Andy Miller, Johnny's son. Played the tour and then went on his Mormon mission and never heard from again. Any clues on him?

I think he had a few other personal issues (well one in particular) if I remember correctly. Hope he's got over that and does well on the golf course although I think he's only made a couple or 3 cuts this season. Didn't he shoot a 59 some years ago?

He's been hurt since 2006 with undiagnosed neck and shoulder pain. Hasn't played on tour since March of that year, may not have even touched a club at all since then. He could still be out on tour since they just keep rolling over his medical exemption, but he hasn't been able to do it.
