Chip Beck....I wonder if he regrets laying up on 15 at Augusta? I know some of you remember that debacle.

David Ogrin....Played a few times with him around the San Antonio area in the mid 90s. Best short game I have ever seen but pretty much a scraper with the longer clubs.

Michelle Wie - OK, she might win this year

And I second Camillo Villegas, but for all the right reasons. Really, what happened to that guy? I knew he was solid when he came out, but I think he might win a Major this year. That's a pretty big climb pretty quickly.

The bag:

Titleist 915 D2 driver

Titleist TS2 3 wood

Titleist 818 H1 3 & 4 hybrids

Mizuno MP-60 irons (5-PW)

Mizuno T-22 wedges

Odyssey Stroke Lab 2-ball

Chris Perry

Dennis Paulson (The Chief...remember?)

I could think of a few others, but I can't. Get it? Ha, ha

I think Chris Perry is hanging out with Kenny Knox. Paulson works for PGA Tour Radio on SiriusXM.

That's cool for Paulson...I've never listened to PGA Tour Radio (no Sirius for me), but that's good he's still around the game.

How about Chris Smith? I think he's still playing the Tour here and there, but for a couple years there he was playing well and making some cash.

Mac O'Grady

I actually met Mac last year. I was working for the Section PGA, and he played in a Champions Tour Qualifier that I ran for the Boeing Classic. Nice guy, kinda goofy

Never met the guy just heard stories when he was at Atlanta CC. Very excentric. I always heard he wanted to play a tournament as Mac O'Grady one, playing right handed and Mac O'Grady2 left handed. I'd like to meet him and see if there is any truth to the rumor.

The Finau brothers.

So much hype when they appeared.

I played alot of amateur golf with these two boys...both good players, both could hit it a MILE. But yes...mostly all hype. Neither was ever better than the dime-a-dozen aspiring tour pro toiling around the mini-tours.

I'm not sure exactly what created all the hype...not that they couldn't play, they sure could hand me my hat regularly, but they just were never that special in my eyes.

I'm not even sure what they're doing now...still playing somewhere. I saw them last spring practicing here locally but didn't chat with them much.

Mike Reid

Lee Rinker

Mike Reid won the Senior PGA a few years ago...I think he's still playing the Champions Tour but I don't know. He usually plays here in Johnny Miller's "Champion's Challenge" a little two-day exhibition event. I watched him play last summer.

His son Daniel plays for BYU. I think the Reids' still own a home here in Utah, but someone told me they live full-time in Maryland or something.

Forrest Fezler

That goes way back, probably early '70s. Inverrary was a chic new PGA event, with Jackie Gleason and Bob Hope getting tons of publicity by playing against other in the pro am. No one had ever heard of Forrest Fezler but the guy with the distinct name was a sensation all week until he blew it over the final holes.

David Gossett

Good call. He's become worse than Duval. Much much worse in fact.

http://texasgolf.blogspot.com/2005/07/hey-...id-gossett.html

I saw Gossett at a U.S. Open sectional qualifier in 2006. He was paired with one Michelle Wie. Anyway Gossett played well (I think he outplayed Wie for what that's worth) but didn't qualify. He hit one of the snazziest little recovery shots I've ever seen, slicing a little knockdown iron underneath a huge tree and around a dogleg. Everyone thought he was just trying to get back into the fairway, but he put the ball on the damned green!

Just goes to show you, even guys in a career slump have major game.
