which ball is the softest on/around the green?

I happened to putt a little bit with an old PRO V1 (or V1x don't ask me which - I had found the ball and the marking was hardly there!) on the putting green last weekend. I usually play a NXT Tour.

Although I didn't compare them directly against each other I thought that the PRO V1 felt really soft off the putter face. Nice feeling, I thought it was softer than the usual NXT Tour.

Does anyone know which of those three is the softest on/around the green?

I would venture to say that the ProV1 would be the softest.

ProV1 the softest. I find the NXT Tour a nice ball to put though, similar to the ProV1x.

i think the best ball off the putter from titleist is the

<prov1-392>

Of those you list, I'd choose ProV1 because it's good in many respects, not just putting (played ProV1X for years). NXT tour is a good ball as well; my friends play that ball. I like the NXT tour too, but don't like it's penchant for unmanageable run out on fast greens.

I would never choose a ball to play because it putts well... I'd choose the ball that travels the farthest when struck well with all my clubs, and spins well off wedges around the green, followed by feel off my putters face. Reason for years I've played 2 putters with face inserts; to soften the feel of my chosen ball.

Side note, if you find you like ProV1 give TM’s TP Black’s a try; it’s TM's comparable ball and it costs much less. I think it’s a better ball too, even though I play TM TP Red.

Well depending on the year and model it will usually come out somethig like this when comparing shore D ratings of these 3 balls.

The ProV1 is the softest of the 3 followed by the ProV1x and then the NXT-Tour.

1. Compression tests performed measuring overall golf ball compression using the Majestix and Atti compression test devices. The higher the number, the less the ball compresses when subjected to aforce.

Interesting...so..would a slower swing speed benefit from higher or lower MPI? I would think lower based on the definition given.

I think that just confirmed that the new ProV1 09' is the Old Bridgestone B330-S 06' Numbers are just too close..

The MPI is just a 100 point scale for compression and hardness. You can look at the MPI the same as the other ratings; the higher the rating the harder the ball.

Softest around the green depends greatly upon your feel, shaft characteristics and club head material. ProV1X is harder then ProV, and NXT Tour is the softest in my hands.

I live on a course and spend a decent amount of time collecting balls. I of course find every brand and type you can imagine. I have spent many many hours trying different balls. I am yet to find one ball that is best for all the areas you would like them to be. For me IMO the best 2 all around balls are the Pro V1 and the Cally tour IX.

But if I could use 4 balls on the same hole it would go like this

Driver / Woods - Tour IX

Long Irons / Hybrids - Pro V1X

Short Irons / Wedges - Pro V1

Putter - Pro V1
