Freddy Gives Bridgestone a great image?

Freddie is a creature of habit. He plays the clubs that he feels comfortable with and that he has absolute 100% confidence in. I think I read that he very rarely ever changes his grips... he likes them old dry and beat up. I guess his thinking is - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

its actually a 580xd tour

sorry my bad....a 580xd tour.

First off i got the impression that, Bridgestome must not be as good as tm if Freddy is STILL using their gear. But now ive changed my mind, Bridgestone definately make solid stuff.....we know this by just looking at their success with the Tourstage brand. Feddy must just have super confidence with his tm driver and at such an important even, ESPECIALLY WITH THE PRESSURE OF NEVER MISSING A CUT, he probably felt tthat he should use his safety net.

Freddy, Darren Clarke, and Greg owen are all using the old r510 TP. It's probably one of the most solid clubs ever made IMO, and those guys hit it so good, that the extra CC's really don't do much. I mean a 300 yard drive is a 300 yard drive, and those guys probably don't hit the new stuff any further. And i believe that couples is using the bstone CB's.

Creature of habit's a mild understatement. :stop:

I heard a story about him from a marketing guy at TaylorMade. Freddie was practicing at their range in Carlsbad and the marketing guy asked him to say a few words about the R7. Freddie said, "I can't say anything about that driver because I don't play it." The marketing guy kept goading him trying to get something out of him, and he refused.

That might have cost him his contract with TaylorMade, but it makes me respect him a heck of a lot. He's not going to be a corportae shill, when he says something's good, he really means it. It's not just words pulled out of his mouth by the lure of $$$.

When Bridgestone gets a driver in his bag you'll know for sure it's there because Freddie likes it and wants to play it. Good move by bridgestone too sticking with their posterboy. 99% of the golf world doesn't care what he's hitting, as long as the posterboard cutout at golf galaxy has him holding a J33. . .

His irons are pretty sweet looking, a LOT like the TM 300's with Bridgestone in the cavity. :D

Those aren't the Bridgestone Irons we know either! The look like the TM 300's but with the Bridgestone stamp. They don't have the backweight like the 300's but they are close. I saw a pics somewhere today and they are new, classy, and unlike anything from Bridgestone. Not knocking BS cause I love their stuff. Couples is VERY Oldschool.

I like Fred. What's not to like about him? He still plays an S2H2 and I still play with a War Bird. Why change what works? Good to see him near the top of the leaderboard...now if we can get the golf gods to see fit ... i.e. 1986 Masters....

Freddy uses TM 300's, and has been for the past 3.5 years if not more. The back weight looks weird becasue he has a ton of lead tape in the cavity.

He did use the 300's for a long time, but at the Master's he's using custom bridgestone's that look very much like the 300's, no lead tape on the new irons. Saw Bridgestone clear as day in the cavity on TV today.

They're completely different from the J33 cavities.

i think you're mistaken when you say bridgestone lacks in the marketing department. have you noticed their brand all over golf channel and the commercials they have going? IMO the commercials with the japanese dudes are pretty funny and the boom, boom, boom commercial is classic. bridgestone is plastered on all of the flat screens in the golf channel news room and they did a good job with the reality shows.

i think its tough to say they have bad marketing. they're a new introduction to the U.S. market and it'll take some time to get some traction with the masses. Landing big names and winners like appleby and couples isn't too shabby either. i think they're marketing is pushing them in the right direction: a quality product that appeals to high caliber players.

i'm happy with my mr23 8 degree. it hasn't left the bag in 3 years. i guess i'm old school too.

yeah i also heard he had a new set of custom brigestone sin the bag at the masters!

Looking again it definately is the 510 tp in his bag......this is a superb driver and i will never sell my back up. After hitting the j420 erarlier today i was surprized how solid it was also....maybe freddie just likes the smaller profile of the tm.

One thing is for sure , he is definately using their ball and he is definately helping their image!

Ps if they are proto cavities in his bag.......they are doing him NOOOOOO harm! that 2 iron he hit 240 yds, hooked round the trees and onto the gren at 13 was UNBELIEVABLE!

different companies have different rules for how many clubs you put in your bag. if you are with Callaway, i'm pretty sure you have to have all callaway clubs.........although i think mickelson still uses a v-steel of some sort and Annika uses a nike wedge that tiger gave to her. remember when tiger won the 1997 masters........he had mizuno irons and everything else was titleist. vijay singh use to use an R7 with all his Cleveland equipment. Jose Maria Olazabel uses a Titleist driver with all his macgregor equipment. I'm pretty sure Jim Furyk still uses a titleist driver with his srixon equip.

when freddie first started with bridgestone, all he had was the ball, then he had long iron tm 300s and short irons bridgestone. i think he is all bridgstone irons now, but i don't know. the bottom line is, who cares, and leave all the rules to the sponsors. scott c.

oh, oooops, tiger used a King Cobra driver in the 1997 masters. eventhough he was sponsored by titleist, he had no titlesit driver, no titleist irons. he had titleist 3 wood, titleist wedges and titleist ball. scott c.

And them some guys cash in and get stuck playing a driver they don't want to play; so they end up hanging around TM and drooling. That's right VJ, we notice.

Cobra and Titleist are owned by the same company. Many guys who are sponsored by Cobra play Titleist. Acushnet doesn't care as long as their guys win.
