Also, if you're serious about graphite, look at recoils. I can't speak for steelfibers, but I've hit a club with a RIP Tour and it doesn't hold a candle to the recoils in the feel department.
+1 for the Recoils. The 110 turned my Fli HI into a much better club, and I already loved it.

I think so. The cover seems closer to a DT or NXT than a Pro V1. I would have gone for 9 holes today if I didn't pick up a bug from one of my kids. Weather is going to be amazing (again) today.

I first started using the Mid Slim 2.0 when I was reviewing the Odyssey Tank Cruiser since that was the stock grip with the weight port, but I always felt was on the larger side. I tried the Flatso Ultra purely because I was bored at Golfsmith one day and had my $40 experiment putter in the car, and was pretty impressed with how it felt in my hands and how I was putting with it. After a handful of rounds I'm still liking the Flatso and could see myself using it for a while.

Good stuff! A good friend of mine used a 5.0(!), and I put a 1.0 on my mom's putter. I saw the 2.0 on the shelves and grabbed it to experiment. I'm going to throw it on the Versa #1W here soon to test. If it is too big, maybe I'll have to try the Flatso Ultra.

I'll be playing at least 1-2 more rounds in the next week or so, can't wait to get back out to try the Titleist test balls and my Fly Z with the Speeder 6.2. This is my problem, trying "new stuff" all the time.

I'd be interested to hear how the experiment pans out for you. This is stating the obvious, but it totally depends on how you grip the putter and what you're looking for in an oversize grip. I think the 2.0 is a fine grip, but I did lose some feel on lag putts (maybe also due to the counter balance), and when I switched to the thinner Flatso, things improved dramatically. Additionally, I went to a non-counter balanced putter. The Flatso, per the name, has a flat top surface and is more angular. I have long fingers and like to have my thumbs/thumb pads sit flat on top of the shaft, so the shape was a natural fit for me vs the rounder Mid Slim. The grip seems to help me keep my hands quiet and square through the stroke.

Of course right after I posted that ^^^ I go out and have possibly the worst putting round ever (no, really) with 39 putts, including eight 3-putts. Other than tee shots, everything was off though, especially from 100 yards in. Possibly one of worst rounds in recent memory overall. But hey, the Fly Z with Speeder 6.2 was a lot of fun at least! And the Titleist test balls were alright. Not quite sure what to make of them since I was playing so terribly, but I did have a few good holes with them.

Beautiful day out on Veterans Day though, amazing weather for November and the conditions at Brambleton were excellent.

Hit 11/14 fairways, but only 5 GIRs due to a case of the chunks with my irons. Putt pretty well with the Zing2 all things considered, but it feels natural and I'm confident. No overthinking with this one. The Fly Z with Speeder TS 6.2 has been super straight, but is not very long because I'm hitting high cuts. Wish it had one less deg of loft (I'm already playing it at the lowest setting 9*). Love the feel and forgiveness though. Short game was slightly inconsistent but made some nice recoveries nevertheless.

Thinking about those tungsten stick-on weights GolfWorks sells, or might drop some weight down the shaft over the winter.

Sounds good. The turkey shoot I just had set me up, I actually played really well compared to recently and now have the itch to get out again this winter, but well see if the weather cooperates.

Thoughts on the drivers I tried this season. Started with the Bio Cell Pro with DI-7x, and ended basically deciding I can play that any day. I tried the BC+ because I liked how it looked and the ball speeds I was getting, then tried the G30 because I can always use more forgiveness, and then the Fly Z because again, forgiveness is good and I am really liking the Cobra look and feel these days.

These were some worthy set ups that I came across this year:

BC+ with Fujikura Pro 73 Tour Spec - solid feel but slightly loud, lovely deep face and compact footprint, I didn't hit this as straight as I wanted to, but I could have made it work. Fun club nevertheless. Already sold this one though.

G30 LST with Fubuki J 50 - straight, forgiving, and definitely low spin as advertised. Nice flat flight. Sound and feel are bordering on awful, but performance benefit was definitely unquestionable. I may put this one back in play since I can't seem to sell it and the more I think about it, the more I wonder if I'll regret selling.

G30 LST with Aldila Tour Blue 75 - didn't play quite the same as with the Fubuki, but one of the straightest set ups I tried.

Fly Z with DI-7x - has the forgiveness of the G30 with sweet feel of recent Cobra offerings, hit some bombs with this, but also sprayed a few and hit more pulls and hooks than I wanted to.

Fly Z with Fujikura Motore Speeder TS 6.2 - as mentioned above, forgiving with nice sensation off the face. However, in the 2 rounds I played with this I hit it shorter than with the DI (granted it was in colder weather). The TS might not be a good fit for me, but I hit this really straight and found the 6.2 harder to turn over than the DI. Will give this more of a chance, but wish it had 1 deg less loft.
Obviously, big misses are a swing issue more than a club issue, but I do believe that the swing does sometimes respond differently to different set ups. Some drivers do magnify the bad swings based on how they look and feel. I realize that I am spoiled for choices here because I could honestly play any one of these and be very happy.I also do not have any LM data, but maybe in the boredom of winter I'll get a fitting or two for kicks to do a couple of comparisons.

Same here, been struggling this season, party due to bad habits and weak mental game, and partly due to incorporating swing changes. I feel like things are starting to come together only now, so I'm definitely up for playing in the cold.

 • 2 weeks later...

Went to the range yesterday and hit 10+ balls each with the Bio Cell Pro and the Fly Z. Here was the dispersion of hits on the Pro:

22983820263_35009b286d_h.jpg

Didn't take a pic of the Fly Z, but it was significantly worse. But don't let that fool you. The dispersion in ball flight was actually similar or even better with the Fly Z despite my hitting it all over the face. I know that's what it's meant to do, be more forgiving, but that was the first time I really took notice of how different the Pro was compared to the Fly Z. I guess that shows how much more demanding the Pro is relative to the Fly Z. It also tells me that the DI-7, after all these years, might still be the shaft for me, even though there are other considerations like head weight, swing weight, etc that affect the two set ups.

In terms of ball flight, the Pro is at 8.5* with a GD DI-7x and the Fly Z is at 9* with a Motore Speeder TS 6.2X, and the Pro's flight was still significantly lower and flatter. The Fly Z launched a good bit higher but it wasn't excessive. No LM data, but it was obvious visually. Again, I wish the Fly Z came with 1* less loft so that I could try lowering it a touch. I know, there's the Fly Z+ but I tried that briefly (granted it was indoors) and didn't like it as much.

Not really picking one or the other here, simply stating more thoughts since it's silly season here. I like them both, but the Fly Z + Speeder is such a straight hitter, it should be a no brainer. Sound and feel of the Pro is still unparalleled though.

That's what happens when you have to keep reusing it for different drivers. If I had money, I'd just get multiple DIs for the different drivers. Cause I'm a 'ho on a budget.

How did the DET end up back in the bag? Don't get me wrong, I'm a Cally guy, but that refinished RBZ Stg 2 might be one of the best looking 3 woods ever. The DET is a classic tho.

My game has not been good, so I was looking for a spark. As of now the RBZ is back in the bag, although I put a bad swing on it and left a nice sandy ball mark high on the toe. Have a Stg 2 hybrid to pair it with too (a 21* head), and if I like the hybrid, I'll send it down to Continental for the same paint job.
