Listen to One More Red Nightmare to hear some of the most subtley compicated and tasteful drumming ever. I think he's the kind of drummer that only drummers themselves really appreciate. My style is pretty much just ripping off Bruford.

Mike Portnoy has already been mentioned, but one of my faves is Gene Hoglan of Dark Angel - technically very good, strong as a horse and his backing fills the tracks. His double-bass rhythms at the start of "Time Does Not Heal" still blows me away.

most def keep em coming for beauford baby, carter beauford is SICK. im 18 and played set, djimbae (sp), congos, bongos (any/all african drums) but mainly set from when i was 9 to 17 and im still good even though i havent played in almost a yr and a half. I tried to emulate the flow and feel of beauford. Now when it comes to sick fills and fast paced punk/rock, although i dont like the music, is Travis Barker, hes soo sick.

I'm a jazz drummer, so I'll say Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, and Roy Haynes (I saw him in Reno this year and he blew my mind as an 83 year old)

I know this is all about our favorite drummers, but I have to state for the record that Buddy Rich is the best drummer ever in any Genre of music. Ask any of the favorites that most have listed here and you will most certainly hear it from their own motuhs that Buddy was the best.

Not sure how I missed this topic. Ive played drums for almost 30 years.

 

Here's my list:

 

1. Danny Carey - Tool If you see him live, there is no doubt why he is number 1 on my list.

2. Neil Peart - Rush He was my number 1 until Danny came along. (I can play Neil, struggle with Danny)

3. John Bonham - Led Z Simply incredible!

4. Buddy Rich He could play anything, will always be the master!

5. Stewart Copeland - Police He has incredible technique and has done a lot more than just play drums. Entire movie soundtracks. Recently saw him live and was blown away. He's scary good!
