Toilet Cleaner? Are you sure it stripped it off? Have you tried Blueing or Browning since the toilet cleaner?

Yes but you have to remove the pro platinum from it. I just put mine in toilet bowl cleaner for an hour or so and it took it right off.

 

I hope that everyone that reads this post understands just what toilet bowl cleaner can do to a putter. It is ACID. If left for any significant amount of time, it WILL RUIN YOUR PUTTER.

Just take care when using it and don't forget that it is a vicious material.

Just a note from experience. NOT from trying it, but from more than one putter sent to me with hopes of fixing it. The damage done by forgetting a putter in toilet bowl cleaner CANNOT BE REVERSED without serious, issues.

Just a word to the wise, that is all.

What is the best way to apply the paint fill? It seems like every time I miss the lettering it soaks into the carbon steel leaving a white "haze" around the lettering. It looks ok, but I want it to look as clean as possible. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Only if you remove it first. It is a plating and cannot be removed without specialized equipment.

I figured I would bump this old post with a picture of the Scotty I just refinished

I was able to find the Birchwood Casey Perma Blue Kit at Dick's sporting goods for around $18 plus tax, any well stocked store that sells firearms will carry it I'm sure

The kit comes with rust and blue remover, it is a good idea to pick up a brush from the store as well with metal bristles if you don't have one after applying the rust remover give it 60seconds and scrub the deep rust, repeat till it comes completely off.... make sure to oil the putter often after you are done and leave it inside at night not in the head cover, leaving it an damp places or in the trunk for long periods of time could cause the putter to start rusting or finish to not look real good after a period of time...

Carbon putters need extra care to them to keep them in good condition, so if you like the feel then simply put in the time to keep your equipment in good shape...

I've been trying the coffee treatment on a raw carbon Scotty newport classic. I've had the putter in used grounds for about two weeks now and went to check on it this evening and saw no real browning. Any tips or steps I should follow?

Yes, it will work on 'raw' wedges, however it won't be very durable. Cold blue formulas in effect stain the surface of the metal so do rub off - a few grounded shots and you'll be back to bare metal in no time. For durability it really needs to be a hot blue process - pm me if you want details of where to get the hot process in the UK.

Haha, well I know my specs and what works. I'm not actually playing the Scotty anymore, it is sitting in my office at home.
