Fujikura Test Prototypes

Recommended Posts

Who on tour is using a Fuji: Els, Kim, Poulter, Fowler?
I was fortunate to acquire some new Fujikura Prototype shafts from a source of mine. They are all specific prototypes made for Tiger, Poulter, Anthony Kim, Ernie Els, Rickie Fowler. They just have the Fujikura logo with Prototype stamped on them with a laser etched number denoting which player they were made for. Anyway, I'm just trying to determine which of these guys, if any, are playing Fuji shafts now? I'm pretty sure that Poulter is playing the Motore Speeder, but don't know about the rest.

Last time we saw Tiger he was still playing the Diamana shafts, although he did put an Oban in play for a couple rounds last season.

Nice, you have what most tour prototype shafts are.....REJECTS! Obviously the shaft you have was rejected by the player or the tour van would have kept it or it would be in play. I had a Tiger Fuji proto about 4 years ago. It was one of the first shafts they made to try and create an X100 wood shaft in graphite. Alas what was fodder for them may be gold for you.

You're right, Im sure they are just junk. Funny how you hype up all of the Aldila prototypes that you've had, but bash someone else who has something unique. Some of these were prototype versions of the Motore and Motore Speeder so I think they are FAR from rejects or junk. What about the Fuji Prototypes a few years back that were the precursor to the Rombax line? Thanks for the insight though, I won't waste my time posting anything unique or interesting anymore.

Aviator,

Would you be able to post some pics of the protos? Most interested in the Graphics and serial set up.

Thanks

Here you go. The numbers denote letters in the alphabet, so 55 would be Ernie Els. I guess they do this instead of putting each player's name on each shaft. If this is old news and nobody cares, I apologize.

Certainly not old news, at least to me. Very cool looking shafts!

I think Fuji is in for a great year!

Thanks,

Thanks guys. I was just trying to share something that I thought would be interesting to most on here. I always wonder how players ultimately choose which shaft to put in play. It would be tough to go wrong with any of the high end Fujikura, Mitsubishi, Matrix, GD, Aldila or various other shafts. I guess it just comes down to what works best for a particular player, based on performance and feel.

Apparently you missed my last sentence. Just because it's a tour reject doesn't mean it's junk. I had a Motore prototype, it was all metallic blue and said "Test Proto" on it. Nothing like your shafts. My guess would be that these are proto's to their new line coming out.

You shafts are nice, I'd even try one if I could find out the specs on one that suited me. I tell many people that the RIP is not for them. I don't just talk up Aldila for any old reason, I talk them up because I believe they make good shafts. And I know alot about their playing characteristics. I have plenty praise for Graphite Design, Daiwa Seiko Roddio's, Fuji's, and other I have had success with. If someone is looking for similar playing characteristics I can point them to an Aldila shaft that works for them. Typically you won't see me posting in a Diamana thread, or a UST Axivcore thread. Not too fond of the Mitsu's, Axivcore's, Accra's or the Project X shafts, but I don't bash them.

No question your shafts are tour or that they are interesting.

I went through many of the Fujikura TGW prototypes back in the day. When I needed a heavier shaft to keep me in control, they were perfect. But, like Tiger, my older age is catching up to me and I'm down to 85g in the driver. I still have a TGW proto with no graphics that I keep around. I'm just waiting for a good excuse to try it in another driver.

Mark's point is valid. As Forrest said about the box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. I've had some prototypes that were 99% what the "retail version" became, like my current Project X driver shaft. I've also had some that were completely unique and one of a very few made that didn't make the cut.

Try them out and see what you think. I'm interested to hear what these shafts do compared to stock Motore and Motore Speeders than what I think will ultimately happen to them.

I think this was a really cool post. Sure they maybe rejects, but it doesn't make them bad. Tiger rejected a Pro 95 many years ago but it's still an awesome shaft. Just because AK, Ernie, Tiger, and a few others "reject" it, doesn't make it a bad shaft. It's just not right for them or they didn't want to switch.

I think Poulter's shaft was a Motre Speeder. I did see that from third round coverage.
