Wolf Creek Golf - Mesquite

What to expect?
Playing Wolf Creek for the first time on July 24th and wanted to know what to expect. I've read numerous reviews and had concerns playing in the summertime. Some have said that the tee boxes are not in great shape and the grass turns from green to brown due to the high heat. Is this true and would it be worth driving 1 1/2 hours to play this course when it's brown? We are ok with the heat and the tee time rack rates.

Wolf Creek is usually maintained beautifully. Like most desert courses, it gets watered when needed. Brownouts shouldn't be an issue. For some reason, golf courses aren't nearly as hot as the rest of the world....

You'll get varying opinions as to whether or not it's worth the drive. Me, I like the course, but hate the ride back to Vegas.

Remember, when playing roulette..... 5, 17, 32.

Have fun!

You can expect visually stunning, but very intimidating, tee shots, amazing course conditions, most likely windy if you play in the afternoon, and about a 5 hour round (not due to crowds, but just getting around the course).

This course is all about the tee ball. Get it in play...and you can score. Struggle off the box...and you're in for a long day.

Wolf Creek has been the crown jewel of our bi-yearly Mesquite/St. George golf trips. You will most likely leave pretty beaten up....but its worth it.

A group of my buddy's were there recently for 4 days of golf. They said all the courses were in really nice shape; but that was two months back. Bring a straight low ball as the wind blows as much as four clubs at times. Oh, and bring balls if you tend to loose control... have a good time.

Completely psyched and counting down the minutes until we tee off at Wolf Creek on Wednesday. I played there as a single (paired with a couple) a few years ago and I've been trying to convince my friends it's worth the drive and money every since. It's not necessarily the "best" course I've ever played, but it's absolutely the most unique and "coolest" I've been on. Coming from the Northeast, all desert golf feels different, but Wolf Creek takes it to a whole different level. I think I was in such awe the last time that I couldn't properly think about actually playing golf. One of my top memories was climbing to the first really elevated tee and thinking that one bad step would have me sliding down the face of a cliff!

Realy excited to get out there. My pals are not all that serious about golf but can crack 100 on a good day. My biggest pet peeve is usually how slow they are, and how little attention they pay to things I recognize as pace killers. But I'm going into this round knowing it will be 5-6 hours regardless, and just enjoy it. I'm not even bringing my clubs since it's the only round of golf this trip, although I'm oddly excited about playing 18 holes with SGI clubs!

Going back a second time, it was all I remembered it being, if not better. And to give you some perspective, I was with three friends who shoot anywhere from 90 to 130 and they were awe-struck and loved it. I stick to my idea that it's not the "best" course I've ever played but it's certainly the coolest and most extraordinary.

Mesquite / Wolf Creek @ the end of August - worth it? Wife and I are considering a trip at the end of August to the Strip. I would really like to play WC but a little concerned about the timing/weather and the 1.5hr each way drive time.

Any thoughts?

Absolutely worth it. Speed limit goes to 75 once you get past the LV Motor Speedway so it's really just over an hour's drive each way, only issue may be heat but I got a Frog Toggs Chilly Towel and it makes the heat tolerable (that along with plenty of water).

Just have to budget a 5-hour+ round due to the elevation changes between holes and bring a camera, make sure you work out as you climb a lot of steps to get to the tee boxes.
