What's the best driver to buy if you have $350?

I want a new driver and have saved up $350. Which driver will you buy if you were in my shoes? Or should I save more and get a Taylor Made TP driver?

An FT-3 that has been properly fitted will give you the most distance. An R5 Tour head, with the appropriate shaft, would be my second choice.

Yes, what is with this driver? I have not tried this driver myself but thanks for the suggestion, it seems like everybody I play with who tees off with this driver just absolutely kills it and when they put a good swing to it, they outdrive me by about 15 to almost 30 yards at times, I mean these are guys who hit their irons and woods the same distance I do mine or even shorter sometimes, and I use a J33R which is also very hot.

what is it you want in a driver? you can't just ask this as a blanket statement. there are a number of things to think about: biased driver? high/low spin driver? high/low trajectory driver? a particular shaft you like?

 

those questions aside, some great drivers in that price range would be:

- cleveland launcher 460 copm

- ping g5

- titliest 905r

- cobro hs9

- taylormade r5 dual

 

for a little more money i would include the ft-3.

R5 tp's brand new with the Diamana, weight kit, HC are going for less than 3 bills on the bay....I'd definitely check those out.....New r7 shallows are going cheaply as well......

Look on ebay and you might be able to find an TP driver right now for under 350. If not, I recommend a Ping G2; you can get this for MUCH less than 350 and it's a great driver, especially with the great shafts they offer.

One person so far makes sense. As you've seen by the variety of responses, there is no correct answer. And there can't be one without knowing about your swing and current shot.

 

If you currently miss to the left, then the TP or other square to open drivers might be right. If you miss right, then these will make it worse and a draw FT-3, Cobra or TM R7 425 might suit.

 

I'd take your budget of $350 and spend $50-100 getting fitted somewhere reputable. Tell them you will not be buying the club from them, but just want the fitting.

 

At the end, you should have a recommendation of head and shaft and $250-300 to spend.

 

This may be enough for a new driver, but if not get what they recommend off eBay.

 

$250-$300 will get you any recent driver in any recent shaft unless you go truly exotic, and eBay has all the combinations.

I would contact a club builder and see what he could do for you. I have a Nakashima 460 and it is by far the best driver I have ever hit. It is 1/2* open and a true 9.5* loft. I also had him add a bit of weight to the head. This thing is a cannon.

Thanks for all the replies, I tried the FT 3s at Golfsmith and ended up buying a lightly used one on Ebay for $240 shipped, the non tour FT 3 10* Draw with the stock NVS 55 R worked best for me. I'll let you know hot it works out in the golf course.
