Cutting a Sound Slot in Putter Head question...

to Beach or not to Beach

When you send a putter to Slighter or Geoputters to have them cut a sound slot in the head, how many grams of weight are lost by removing the material?

Anyone know the answer, specifically???

I believe it was 5 grams but, I could be wrong...

I'll second on the 5 grams. I left enough weight on my Long Neck Tacoma to have a slot cut in the future and still carry my desired 340 grams.

Tom can tell you exactly how many grams. I had Tom cut a sound slot ALL THE WAY thru my Cameron Newport's sole. It doesn't feel any lighter either. I really love this putter now. I also had him remove the "303" and "Stainless" and replace it with my name. Tom did a GREAT job! GO FOR IT! I just sent Tom my NEwport Beach to have a sight line cut onto it as well.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's closer to 10 grams. With all the ways there are to add weight back to a putter, the beach would be a sweet option, then you'd have a schweet beach. :drinks:

I have never been a fan of the sound slot until I got one on my custom Byron putter. Now I'm a fan. I think most of it has to do with the weight of the putter and where the cut is made. On my Byron, the slot is made behind what is a relatively thick face (pings and retail Scotty's have significanly thinner faces, with the slot being cut much closer to the face/front of the putter) on a slightly heavier head. As much as I like hearing high-pitched tuning forks on the greens (along with cell phones, "gitrdones," and "youdamans" :man_in_love: ), I much prefer the muted feedback this putter provides. Here's a sole picture.

DO IT! GEO charges around $65 to cut the slot and post it back to you i think from memory.

This was from Byron Morgan refinish w/ sound slot off of The Cameron Collector.Byron does outstanding sound slots/viber grooves and is second to none on refinishing. A typical sound slot is 5 grams.
