Paint fill 101

Anyone tried Klean Strip on Ping s55s? Is looking to go totally nude and want to make sure there's no finish issues.

Thanks

Doesn't matter what strip it is, do not get it on the weight port. It will fry the outer layer. Same with Glides.

Hey guys wasnt sure if this was brought up already but couldnt find anything on it. Does anyone know how to fill the tour dots completely on an SC Select Newport? I've seen some people do it to give the "Big tour dot" appearance and it is also covering the chrome rings. Any ideas as far as just keep piling on paint or if theres some type of filler anything helps thanks!

Not sure if this is a silly question but when you're cleaning up the excess paint outside of the areas you fill with the acetone how do you not remove paint from the filled area?

#000 steel wool.

Tal strip will not affect finish at all. Needles are great but everyone has tooth picks around the house and work fine

i am stripping my sm6's, they have jet black finish, and im going to strip them raw. i also want to remove the paint fill. is there some thing i can soak the club in that will do both things at the same time?

Ok guys, I had no problems stripping the paint off my irons and really filling them was easy too but here is my problem. I used Tamiya X-7 Gloss Red, now after I completed the fill and let it dry about 5 hours I cleaned off the excess paint with a non-acetone nail polish remover.......the paint fill is not glossy? Is it because I didn't wait long enough for the paint to dry before cleaning off the excess or should I use a clear gloss over the red next? This is a horrible job for someone with OCD

Can you clarify... is it a "clear red"? Take a look at my fill above, and see if it's the same.

You used a different red, yours states it as clear and mine as gloss. I think I will give things another go over the winter with a longer dry time and a clear coat.

Hey Matt,

I have found a pretty good method for this actually.

Step 1: Remove current paint fill wiith any old stripper.

Step 2: Make sure area is flat and dry.

Step 3: Neatly fold a paper towel and apply nail polish remover.

Step 4: Rub said paper towel over dots so there is a thin layer of nail polish remover over the work area (this will help the paint flow into edges).

Step 5: (Sounds like this is where you are having trouble) I have found that the Extra Fine Tip Sharpie Brand Oil Based Paint Pens work best for this. Start in the middle and paint in slow circles until you reach the outer edges of the circles. Try not to lift the pen... When you get to the outer edges use the side of the paint pen to get the inner walls, evidently the tip is exactly the same length as the wall so you wont have any spill over and it should line the inner edges perfectly..

Tips:

- Let gravity move the paint for you. less strokes the better for this.

- DO NOT wipe the area after... The scotty circles are concave so you will ruin the middle when you wipe it down... If you mess up start from square one.

Paint pen example ( you should be able to get these at any craft store or maybe even walmart for 8 bucks or so)

BLAAHHH do not use steel wool!!!! Just neatly fold paper towel a few times. Grab some nail polish remover and apply to the paper towel make sure its not really wet.... Wipe the area with a few swift strokes in a single direction... Essentially a sanding motion with the paper towel until paint is gone..

Very easy.

I filled my SC Newport with the L.A. Rams theme. Extremely happy with the Tamiya clear blue, not so much with the clear yellow. It was my first fill, so I was a tad nervous. But everything went well. I was a little sloppy but I now have 30GA luer lock tips.

They yellow to me looks to much like "gold" I will try an opaque yellow when I feel like painting again.

I read through over 10-15 pages on here. Given this thread is years old and many have experiments many different ways - I am looking for a durable metallic paint option, and I think the only solution for that is a nail polish? I apologize but I didn't see anywhere on this thread on how well nail polish and or with a combo of hardener holds up on the clubs number on the sole through playing and washing?

I also like how the translucent "clear" Tamiya paints come out, which I have most noticeably seen people use on the cherry bombs on the SC putters.

Does anyone have some pics they can point me towards with a metallic paint fill? I like the subtle look of Mizuno forged clubs and I'm torn if I should go for a color that pops or stays subtle with some metallic to it.

I don't have any pics, but Tamiya offers metallics...

How is Tamiya paint holding up without clear coat? Just curious.

Update - very well. Much better than expected. Will be my go-to from now on.

Absolutely critical to give a thorough amount of time to drying.

anyone have some tips or advice on paint filling the neon green holes/spheres on Callaway MD3?

Ive paint filled plenty of other clubs before, and have actually paint filled every part of these wedges except the ports. the paint just does not have a good look when filled in. Most people just paint over the spheres? or remove them? any feedback appreciated

I use acrylic paint, always have been happy with the results

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1340718-summer-has-finally-hit-ne-ohio-2016-witb/ Check out my WITB. I have MD3's as well and couldnt decide on how to do it. In the end I just paint filled over the green in the dots that comes factory stock, you may have to use an extra coat depending on what color you are looking to do but darker colors cover them up just fine and look really good when they are done.
