CALLY RAZR HAWK TOUR - COURSE REVIEW

Recommended Posts

I recently dialed in my R11 driver first shaft Fubuki 63stiff, 73x and now RIP60x set at neutral asp open. On my last round, I beat my career best at my home course by about 7 yards on a couple of holes. The R11 spanks the 910D3 for me. I was astonished at how long the R11 was. I have demod a Razr Hawk Tour and it appears to be one heck of a club but this was range only. Oh well, my search is on for a Razr Hawk 8.5 or 9.5 w/ Rip 60x. This should make for one heck of a showdown.

RIP 60X huh... Yeah, that's what I love about the R11 TP. Just a click and bam, new head/shaft combo!

I found my old draw again too with my R11!!

Getting my baby back tonight!!!!! (9.5° RHT w/ Ahina 70g in stiff - tipped 3/4"). Playing tomorrow morning, so plan is to report back.

I've used the RHT extensively with the stock RIP shaft in X (quite good BTW), so I think my feedback maybe very helpful for those of you looking to re-shaft.

Cheers,
D

+1. Those will be LOW rockets with LOW spin.

That is a beastly combination. I don't know if I know anyone that has the swing to be optimized with that. I need a little higher launch or higher spin to get my distance.

I'm getting fit by John Kelly out of STL next week. I am gaming the stock RHT 10.5 Stiff now.

He has a full fitting setup with outdoor Trackman and stocks Diamana, Matrix, Oban, Accra, etc.

I can't wait. I am going to swing and let him do his thing. I will try to get a write-up when I'm done.

Okay, I exaggerated a little, it isn't THAT low, as it launches pretty nicely, ie. it's not like you have to have a huge lean back and flip your hands to get the ball in the air, rather what is impressive is that it launches mid trajectory (for me) and just seems to hold the launch angle until it reaches its apex and starts descending. I guess a better word to use would be "flat"; very flat, penetrating ball flight.

I will likely be getting some Trackman time next week and will see if I can get some good data to post. Hopefully it won't be a bunch of duck hooks and push slices, lol.

Ok guys....so puppet said it best....the ahine definitely brought my flight down from the stock RIP. The ball flight is basically EXACTLY as puppet described. I played today and definitely hit a few bOmbs....but I have to get used to the feel, flight and new personality of my baby. Hit it 4 times on the front and hit two fairways, hit it 3 times on the back and hit two fairways. On the 16th hole (par 5) I hit an absolute smoker down the pipe.....maybe the longest I've ever hit by like 5-10yds. Shot a 2 under 70 today (from the whites though...for a club event). First round of 18 under par.

The shaft is quite smooth, but the flight has certainly dropped. One thing I'm happy about though (which scared me on the range) is that the ball holds it's flight while in the air. I was nervous that it would just drop out of the sky.

If I could start over.....I probably would have tipped the shaft a bit less to get a touch higher flight. or even gone Kai'li in x straight in.

One other thing to mention: the current swing weight is D6 @ 45 1/4". Feels a bit hammerish. I'm planning to chop a 1/4" off to get a bit better swing weight (D4) and perhaps some more control.

All in all.....I'm pretty happy after one round. I would say that if you are skying your ball, this might be a great shaft option.

9* R11 TP with Motore Speeder VC 6.2 stiff tipped 1", 45.25". So so smooth and tight dispersion. Set at Neutral Upright, which gives me the draw that I prefer off the tee.

Spent some time away from this driver while trying some other combos. Got back with it today and OMG, into the wind on several holes, it was very long...and straight. I'm not a fan of the RIP but in this setup, which is stock, I like the feel, better than any other Cally driver I've had or hit. The trajectory is high for me at 9.5 but spin is still low...I couldn't ask for more.

Been a week without my beloved RHT. Been hitting my old Supertri and made me realize how good the RHT is.

It will be back tomorrow ...with a newly installed Oban Tour Prototype V430 6 05. It is going to be a beast!

Hahaha QMany......I'm in the same boat. Never ended up pulling the ahina shaft.......took a break with my Supertri.......now back to the Cally!

Glad I didn't reshaft it back to the stock RIP, as Ive found that by slowing my swing down, I'm hitting the setup much better (for some reason I convinced myself that swinging harder was the way to hit the ahina setup).

Anyway......back to my RHT/ahina.

PS: Installed the Harrison Shotmaker (E version) in my RHT/ahina and couldn't notice any performance gain. NOTE: I think the reason is due to the E version being too soft for the ahina setup though. I may pickup an F version to give another go. I put the E in my 3 wood (stock stiff flex shaft with no tipping) and I did notice more consistency and increased feel. Actually, the thing made my 3 wood tough to draw.....which I love!

 Ya ya......I hear that a lot on the WRX that a certain driver is "10-15" longer than the next. "On Solid drives" if the RHT was 10-15 longer than ANY other driver out there every tour guy would be playing one.

If you can get the right head and shaft combo, you will be able to get that extra yardage.

My instructor said to get fitted in reverse. Find the shaft first and then the driver head. For me personally, it's the Fubuki Tour shaft. The RAZR driver and the X-Hot 3-wood both have Fubuki Tour 63 shafts.

@golfware.....I sold my R11 TP with the Fubuki Alpha earlier this week.

  • 2 weeks later...

ok I was lucky enough to acquire a callaway razr hawk tour 8.5 w RIP/shaft as a guest of a corporate outing,I have a Titleist 910d2 8.5 w Ahina 72 shaft i have been playing all year.I really like my titleist 910 very nice club BUT I hit the RAZR Hawk yesterday for the first time and all I can say is WOW.I played 18 holes with my brother at my home club where i have probably played at least 50 rounds in my life.I know people always say that they gained 15-20 yards and I always thought they were full of it,I swear I was in places on this golf course that i have never been close too,my brother and I are usually very close to each other as far as driving distance but yesterday i was an average of 15-20 yards farther and on a couple holes 30-40.The first hole of the day is a 435 yd par 4,i am usually somewhere between 165 to 180 out yesterday i was 141 out and everything is the same, same course same ball.My drives were also very straight i hit 11/14 fairways with 2 of the misses within 5 yds of fairway,I have never in my life played a callaway driver I have used a Ping g5 a rapture and a Nike STR8 fit before the titleist 910d2 and I have never seen results like this,I can't wait til Sunday to see how I hit the RAZR for the 2nd time..

Mine is back in thr backup bag. Sometimes I look like a 6 handicap, and sometimes I look more like a 26 handicap. Just can't stand it. So it's getting some time off. An R11 is enroute. :-)
[/quote]

I am certainly not getting rid of my 910 D2 yet,but my first go around with the RAZR was really good so we will see the next few times out,the only thing i find a little wierd is the sound/feel of it,with any other drive you can tell when you pure it,with the RAZR they all kind of felt the same,I didnt miss many but there were a couple that i could tell by ball flight that i hit it on the screws but they sounded and felt kind of like the ones i felt like i hit good but not perfect, kind of hard to explain??

I had the exact same experience. In three rounds at my home course with the RAZR Hawk, I am playing from places i've never been before. On the two longest par 4s I am now 6-8 irons in while i used to hit 5 iron or hybrid 3s in. I used to know what all the yadages on the sprinkler heads were around my driving landing areas. Now i have to learn new ones. Good problem to have!

Count me in. I just sold my SF 2.0 with the kiyoshi shaft for the RH Tour 8.5 with the RIP stiff. I like it so far but sometimes the miss hits are hard to read from a feel stand point. It is definitely as long as any driver I have had. I do plan to take a trip to EW in nashville to check spin numbers.

Yea i described it to my buddy as a rocket launcher,I dont know if its the sound or the lack of vibration, but when i hit it seems like it comes off the face so fast and its futher down the fairway than i am used to when i first see it,like the previous post I will not complain love the xtra 15-20..

This forum has a lot to anser for...yet another driver for the cupboard if it doesn't work out.

I just picked up the Tour version in 9.5 degrees. There were four on display, all 9.5's, and every one of them looked totally different from address position. I chose the one that best suited my eye and the one with the least looking loft whilst still looking to be square to open. I can't believe that there was so much difference. What the actual loft is on the one that I've got is anyone's guess. If it works then great, if not then its going back for a swap.

I've just put a PX 7B3 in and have Fubuki and Fubuiki alpha to try. However, I've also got a Prolite 35 that will be going in next as It is such a superb cheap shaft. All low spin shafts and hopefully a low spin head.

Thats another $400 hole in my wallet, thanks GolfWRX!
