Walking Only/ Caddy Courses

Are there any?

Does anyone know of any walking only courses, besides Bandon Dunes? Looking for any place in the U.S. that has walking only and/or a great caddy program.

I assume you want pulic access courses. The Ocean Course has a good caddy program i think and would probably be a great course to walk with a caddy.

Not sure how you would get on, but Sebonack and Friars Head on Long Island are two of the most spectacular walking courses you will ever find. The caddies at both courses are some of the best in the country. Both are not marked and you must rely heavily on your caddie for yardages. At Friars no range finders and no rakes in any of the bunkers.

alot are private but some public are pinehurst, chambers bay, bethpage black and the Ocean Course

I have played Pebble, Spyglass and Spanish Bay, as well as Pinehurst #2....all with caddies.

I believe the Pebble area courses' requires either a caddy, or a cart and a fore caddy. I used a cart and fore caddy at Spyglass, and a caddy at Spanish and Pebble. When I played at #2 we used caddies the first two rounds and then played the back 9 only the next day with carts.....we were with a member so I don't know if that changed things (we were going to play a different course and a storm was moving in, so we just drove to the 10th and got in a quick 9) but even if you want to use one a cart is a bigger pain than anything there. They don't allow carts on the fairways (a good thing) and the paths are sand, lots of walking back and forth. From my understanding you can take a caddy on any of the Pinehurst resort courses but some are better suited for carts and others for walking. In fact the caddies told me that on one of the courses (forget which one) they hate looping, because it is a long hilly walk and it is best to ride, which most people do.

My point is, the Pebble courses allow carts, if you have a forecaddy, and you will see carts on the courses, At #2 they will allow carts under special circumstances but you won't see many, if any during a day.

Just to clarify, only the Old Course at Stonewall is walking/caddy only; you can ride the North Course.

May River Golf Club @ Palmetto Bluffs in Bluffton, SC is very nice and I believe only walkable.

As an expereinced marshal (one of the good ones), I can say without a doubt, that a walking only policy improves the experience for all. Walkers and riders sharing the course often leads to problems.

1) There is a much better flow when all are walking because it is the natural thing to do.

2) Walking is exercise and exercise improves mood, so walkers are are happier.

3) There can be a "hurry up" mentality that can develop when rushing from shot to shot in a cart. Nobody likes slow play, but it's not a race either.
