All Ping Iron Players

i had played i3 blades since 2001 (2-w) with rifle 6.0 shafts. just started playing the s58's (2-w) with rifle 6.0 shafts.

it seems like the new s58's seem to balloon more in the wind than the i3's did...how can this be so when they have the same shafts? both were assembled at pingwrx. are the sets that different, or could it be some difference in the shafts...given the i3's were made in 2001 & the s58's were made in 2007.

i play in oklahoma where it is very windy all the time, and i can't have these new irons perform like this. i'm thinking of trying out the rifle flighted, project x, or something different.

if anybody has any insight or suggestions it would be appreciated.

thanks

I played i3 with rifle 5.0 shafts and last year switched to i5 with cs lite regular. I had not intended to get the irons with that shaft, but found a deal I could not pass up. Meant to reshaft over the winter with wrx, but I ended up liking the cs lite shaft. I do not intend to switch, but if I did, it would be to lower the flight with a different bend shaft, I like a lightweight shaft in Ping irons, remember that has long been a tenet of Karstens design philosophy, it is why the clubs have always been a half club longer than anything else, in my opinion.

Just brought my first set of Ping irons yesterday having been looking for something with a lower trajectory for some time. They are i3 blades and were purchased off ebay. They were a bit flatter than I was after and there was a bit of inconsistency in lie angles (not by that much) so my Pro and I put loads of impact tape on them and used my lesson last night as a fitting session. He's doing the tweaks to the lie angles today to bring them to my specs and I'll try them again tonight. Can't wait.

They are fitted with DG S-300 shafts and they hit the ball with a lower penetrating trajectory like I have been after. I'm a very happy golfer. Playing Carnoustie next week and can't be hitting it too high round there!

The LT2s are now off to ebay as they do not do (for me anyway) what they are supposed to do!

I have a set of i-3 Blades with DG S-300 stiff shafts.

The shafts were installed after they left the factory according to my teaching pro but he thought that whoever did the change had done a good job with the fit. He did an iron by iron loft check during a lesson and then did adjustment on them with me and I'm very happy with them. He did the Tour wedges at the same time to make sure they were all spot on. Best £10 I've ever spent as they were all too flat for me.
